As long as they don't hide the beer, or hide the price of the beer, I don't care how they decide to dole it out

I think 1-2 bottles is fair. Whatever it takes to improve my chances of getting it.

I got 2 bottles of The Oracle from 2 different places and both were held for me, after stalking their FB pages religiously. The thing is, I'll be drinking only one and will be giving one away to 2 of my friends who will be splitting the bottle (I can't join them otherwise 3 of us will split 2 bottles).

Still, I don't think it's unfair or outrageous for stores to limit buyers to 1 bottle. This is the only way more of these rare beers can reach the most number of people...spreading the love, if you will.

Don't generally get involved with anything that is so rare it has a bottle limit, however if I did, 2 bottles is quite reasonable. One for now, one for later. If you want to trade it that badly for something else just as rare, use one of the two you have as the trade beer and let someone else get some.

Limits are fine and necessary in many cases. 1 bottle is extreme, especially when talking about this beer. This wasn't exact the hardest beer to get and I know that through a little poking around, I could still find it. Where I went, the limit was two and that seems reasonable. 1 = not reasonable.

The store I frequent has a 2 bottle limit on special releases. I love and hate it.

I like the idea of a store having a VIP pass that gets you double the release quantity for a small annual fee.

My local will put a limit of one per on bombers...that's fine with me, but I would be pissed if I could only buy 1 12 ounce out of a sixer. That's rediculous. I have problems with the one per on bombers because I have to buy one for the wife as well, and that means I have to get special permission from the manager and other costumers are looking and its a whole THING. but I do understand it.

It is a dang good thing i have a pretty good pulse on when things are distributed in this
horribly poor craft beer city i live in. (NW Louisiana)

Because normally the few bottle shops that get rare or limited never see the shelves. They are always hidden in the managers office, etc.. I havent had any issues in those cases getting more than one.
    However, i do get pissed
when someone is allowed to come in, wipe out a whole case of a limited or rare, and hoard it for themselves, or use it to trade with.

I think they should keep the limit on Oracle, price it even more ridiculously expensive, and make it even harder for folks to get. When large companies who compete with local breweries insist on hanging themselves, I say give them as much rope as possible.

What's the difference between getting a rare beer to trade vs drinking it yourself? If anything the latter is more selfish.

I don't mind it. Makes more beer for those who want to go the extra mile to secure more than one.
If you don't want to do the work, or put in the time, you don't want the beer as bad as I do.
Besides, half the fun is the hunt for me.

2 would be my minimum. Have the 1st fresh and the 2nd with some age.

For Oracle, my sales guy was only given 4 cases to allocate to over 15 stores. I received one case. I split it up to 1 12oz bottle per person so that everyone gets a bottle. Still only lasted a day. I hate doing this but I find at the end of the day my customers prefer to have at least 1 bottle rather than 0. By not dividing it out, only 4 people get to try the beer.

I'd rather have the opportunity to buy a 4-pack of a beer that was shipped in a case of 4 packs and potentially miss out than make a journey for one bottle. Total Wine doesn't have any idea who their good customers are and could care less who they sell to. Even breaking them up into singles doesn't guarantee every one who wants a bottle will get one. If they come in 4 packs, Sell them in 4 packs. I'd rather make 6 timely customers really happy than make 24 customers slightly less miserable.

If there is only 4 sixers available then so be it. I'm not mad at you, That's life. That doesn't bother me. If it comes in sixes, then sell it in sixes. If I trek down and get inline for a sixer and you tell me i can only have one 12 ounce bottle, Im a little ticked. That's just stupid beer culture and I'll wind up buying something else either way. With bombers I think a special release can have a 2 bottle limit (one for the wife or I can't get one myself). I understand that.

There is a certain amount of beer etiquette on the part of buyers. Especially those newer guys and gals don't realize at first. Don't buy what you are not going to drink. Pretty simple. If you are buying a little for trade, that's not a problem, but hoarding is. It's simple beer etiquette. This IS America though, and that means free enterprise and capitalism is alive and well. I have a RIGHT to buy what ever is available to buy. I just choose to use proper buyer etiquette. I don't think, as a seller you have a RIGHT to with hold beer that is available to buy from me. That's unAmerican, you are a beer seller are you not?

Capitalism- an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market.
