When Hopslam was released last winter...I bought an accumulation of 6 cases. Based on the Bell's availablility calander, I expected to be able to go to the same retailer and buy Oracle by the case. I was offered 1 bottle. I'm very frustrated with this. Being from the region that helped to build Bell's into what they are today, I would think that there would be a focus on making sure that the folks that have supported them all along would be able to find what they are looking for. Both Bell's and Founders keep talking about facility expansion, but supply seems to be going down. I have emailed both companies and received responses. Bell's response was at least thoughtful and shows promise. Founders response came out of a can.

Look, one of my favorite beers in the world was the original White Rajah. I was able to get it pretty regularly at 10$ a six @ that time. Then it got popular and the price went up to 11$...I was fine with that...it's a good beer at a fair price, they are local..and I support brew kettle. Then they ran out of the citra and changed the formula. Well it is still a very good beer...the price didn't change, but a fair price...no complaints. It got more popular...It comes around about every three weeks or so. It is not the old rajah, but it is very good beer. My local will get maybe 4-6 cases. It will sell out in two days. There are people that will come in and fill up a sixer with different beers and buy them at singles at inflated prices, what ever...I know what I like, that's why I drink the rajah...these people will buy all sorts of different stuff just to try different things. They are learning what they like.

When the shop is down to the final 5 beers or less..it gets relegated to the singles shelf at an inflated price. I have no problem with this. It's a fair and good way to handle it. Guess what...I won't buy rajah as singes at an inflated price. I go to my Dark horse...it's my go to (love that beer). Guess what, if I were only allowed to buy that beer as singles...I wouldn't. I love three floyds. I can't get it often. I have seen zombie dust once in my life. It's what the original Rajah was...only with caramel malts. Guess what...I wouldn't even buy that as an inflated single if there were sixes available, but I just wasn't allowed to buy it because someone I don't even know said so. Because they felt like it.

Thing is they run a business. I hear you but they'd rather have 24 customers in there that probably won't buy just one bottle. It makes business sense to limit it.

If a store only got in one or two cases, I generally don't have a problem with this. I'd hope when this is done, the intention is fairness as opposed to making a few extra bucks by inflating the single price.

Where is the evidence that bringing those 24 buyers actually gets them more customers or that these customers buy more? It's pure speculation.

I guess but it doesn't seem like a stretch and to claim I'm wrong is also, well, "pure speculation"... I mean, do you think that six buyers will buy 4 times as much per person as 24 buyers? How many times have you walked into a store and left with one 12 oz bottle? Seems like the guy that only gets a single bottle is probably more likely to add a few items than the guy that walks out with an expensive four pack. Once Total Wine gets me in the door I'm in for $50 period and I'm not alone so it's all about customer count. As beer nerds we feel important but so is the guy that buys a shit ton of rotgut.

Also, 24>6 so it's not speculation that it brings more customers. That's a fact. The debate is whether it they make more money in the end which is speculation.

Not a stretch at all. I went to get KBS on my lunch break earlier this year at Binnys in Buffalo Grove (NW Chicago Burbs), in which there was a 1 bottle limit. There were two others waiting at the service desk behind me, all 3 of us went to go check out more beer and I ended up picking up a bomber even though I didn't intend to.

Man, that's me every time with one exception. I called in sick last week for a mental health day and saw that Specs (local big liquor store) had the Avery Uncle Jacobs coming out but one per person. I drove over, got in, grabbed my bottle and got out because I didn't want to be seen by a coworker. That's the least amount of beer I've ever bought at once. Funny thing however is that had someone seen me what do I care because that means they were in a freaking liquor store at 3 pm instead of being at the office that's five miles away like they should have!
