I was surprised. I had never heard of it. I randomly ordered it at a hotel bar(!!!) only to have my socks blown off. That was a good hotel stay.

I do this all the time as well. In fact, I'm on my way to Minneapolis today and researched how far Surly and Town Hall are from my hotel, long before I checked how far my business appointments are.

I don't do a heck of a lot of travelling, but I do often check to see what might be available where I'm going. Most of the time it's a more or less rushed type of trip, with little or no free time, so I only do general checks ahead of time. If I find that I will have time to go beer hunting, I'd check on my phone or now that my fiancée has an Ipad, I'll be able to check that for locals.

I did the exact same thing before heading to Minny last month for a wedding. The one tip I will give you, is that it matters not how far your hotel is away from either of those two places. Go to both. You will be glad you did. What a great beer destination.
    Enjoy!

Pre-trip research is what brought me here in the first place.

Always. My favorite part about traveling nowadays is trying to find great beers and beer bars/restaurants

My summer vacation this year was mainly for this. I wanted to see a few places (Captain Lawrence, NebCo, Dogfish Head, Tired Hands and Pizza Boy) booked the whole trip around these main points of interest. Ended up visiting more breweries than planned but also enjoyed some nice camping in DE and other nice stays and activities in PA. Main reason I want to plan a belgium trip is beer.

It's ALL about the beer :grinning:

I'm going to Chicago with my gf just to try beer and good food! Goose island half acre map room hop leaf all kinds of bottle shops. Stoping at bells and three Floyd's on the way down from Michigan. It's a world class vacation in my eyes!

My last trip to Tokyo, Japan was all about tasting as many Japanese craft beers I as I could. The craft beer scene there is amazing (albeit pricey - thanks Japanese Beer tax!). I tried to check out as many craft beer bars as possible. My avatar picture was taken at Popeye's Beer Club.

I also had one of the rarest beer I've ever drank which was the Kaze no Tani beer only found at the Studio Ghibli museum in Mitaka, Japan. Of course coming from Studio Ghibli is has an amazing label: [IMG]

the only thought i've ever entertained is moving to wisconsin when i retire so i can readily get new glarus beer. that gives them 9 or 10 more years to finally distribute outside of the cheese state.

Yes! Just went down to Delaware for a weekend so I could visit DFH. About a 3 hour drive and well worth it. The area around there was great too. I definitely recommend the Rehoboth/Dewey Beach area.

Lots of VT mentions and I did the same this past July - rented a car in NYC on a Friday morning and hit up 10 breweries in VT all the way from Brattleboro to Burlington and everything in between with my wife. If you can swing it, I can't really imagine a better long weekend! I really enjoyed fiddlehead, lost nation, rock art, switchback and of course hill/alchemist.

My brother heard me listening to brewmasters and noticed I really liked DFH and told me that he is going to buy a new work truck in Delaware and is going to send me to go pick it up so that I can visit the brewery and brewpub. Thought that was pretty awesome of him considering we live all the way out here on Nantucket.

Every time I go to Amsterdam you would think I go for the window shopping and coffee shops, but it turns out most of my time is spent in a couple of bottle shops and amazing craft bars. Or as they call them in Europe, 'bars'.

Yep. Vacationed with millerbuffoon two years ago for an entire 7 days of San Diego Beer Week. We set out with no particular beers in mind to try but at the end of the week, we tried a #%^* load of stuff we couldn't get in PA. Not sure if that counts as a valid answer since we weren't on a focused pilgrimage prior to plans. (As we all know, brewers break out some crazy stuff for events like this so there's no way to plan and that was the beautiful thing about the trip.)

My wife and I (and possibly my father in law) are planning a trip up to Vermont for HF and HT, hopefully this year. Vermont is a lovely state already, but the purpose is the beer.
