Viewed through an historical lense, the latest holy grail (hopcentricity) is impressive. I do liken it to powerfully fruity, alcoholic, tooth-staining red wines being so impressive to such a wide audience. I've said on these pages before that subtlety sneaks up on you the more you live and know.

Cut the dude some slack. He lives in Germany and, presumably is writing english as a second language. Assuming that to be the case, I'm impressed he even knows of this relatively obscure English idiom. No real need to bust on him for it and possibly discourage his future participation in this mostly English language forum.

I wish I could just let this statement go but I can't. I just can't. The Midwest is making some good beers to be sure, but let's not go overboard. Plenty of fine beer is being made in other parts of America, and in other countries for that matter.

The only way that post was serious (the whole thing, not just your snip) is if that guy is huffing paint. You should have let that go.

You should be more tolerant. Even though thoughts arrive like boaterflies they don't know so they chase them away.

    I don't know what a boaterfly is

You realize the majority of american hops are grown in the PNW right? the VAST majority of those being from WA and OR.
and im pretty sure the best beers in the world are not coming out of the mid west. the world is a big place.

And enough with the malt! And the yeast! And what's with all that water anyway?!

Personally, I'd rather see more exotic hop varieties than yeast. I love fruity hop flavors; Citra, Sorachi Ace, Cascade, Amarillo, Centennial, Summit...think of the flavors they could create. I will admit that I'm not really into super-bitter piney hops, and those seem to be the ones that offend you. But I'd rather see innovation in hops, get some new floral and fruit flavors from them, than see how many different variations on "old sandwich" we can beat out of yeast.

For whatever reason, I often think of the two of you as a single person with multiple personalities. It definitely makes this exchange all the more entertaining.

I hate getting blasted in the face with hops. Grapefruit sucks and thats what old people eat and drink. I like Saisons better than IPAs because they are less hop forward.
