Iowa Rumors?

Lots of Mango at Fleur Hy Vee. Stop down to el Bait Shop, they do growler fills, just not on TG beers. They've got some solid beers on tap and some great selections in bottles right now. Not sure if Confluence lets you fill others growlers up with their beer or not.

 

Why would anyone want Mango??? It is horrible. It was yanked from the lines at Red's it sold so poorly. Founder's needs to get their act together, because they are putting out some real crap.

 

Sometimes they may do a golden nugget growler.

 

Both Stone Enjoy By and Deschutes Fresh squeezed ran out at first but for the last couple weeks up to today have been restocked in Iowa City/eastern Iowa, unfortunately not for Stone Woot.

 

True story on the Crooked Staves.....cant wait as I haven't had any of their beers before. Lots of canned goodies should be showing up soon as well.

 

Is Iowa getting Deschutes Jubelale? (pardon the question - live in DC, so not all that familiar w/ exactly what Deschutes is distributing). Visiting IC in a few weeks, trying to gameplan what I can expect to grab while I'm in town.

Also is Confluence canning and/or distributing to Iowa City yet?

Finally, on a related note - Backpocket Brewing is on shelves in DC. First Iowa beer I've seen available out this way. Awesome to see.

Confluence is available in Iowa City, yes! I have seen the Des Moines Pale Ale, Barley and Me, and a couple others where the name escapes me. You can get them at Dirty John's and Johncy's in North Liberty. I don't believe they sell cans here yet (I haven't looked) but you can get these dark brown short bottles that have screw caps. I want to say they are quart sizes. Flavors are marked on those avery type printer labels, lol.

Interesting you've seen Backpocket in DC. I heard from the owner they were shipping out that way, but didn't want to make it public because apparently a market in Iowa hasn't even received it yet and they didn't want to upset that.

 

Awesome, thanks. I was in Des Moines back in March, and was really impressed by Confluence (especially loved their taproom). Glad I'll be able to snag some.

The DC market is a weird 'gray' zone, in that 3rd party distribution is not required. Breweries can self-distribute, and stores basically just need to file a simple form, and they can sell whatever they want, no matter how they get it. I've only seen Backpocket at one store so far - a Whole Foods. Sometimes stores will send employees on roadtrips to just pick up out-of-market stuff. There's one liquor store near my apartment that regularly sells cans of Surly Furious and Coffee Bender (for $7/each, though).

Coralville Hyvee and Johncys got Narwhal today

 

Dont know if this is common or not, but the Coralville HyVee also had some SN Bigfoot

 

I picked up a 4 pack from Johncy's! Cedar Rapids will probably get theirs tomorrow.

Oakland Road Hyvee also had just gotten more Star of the North and Justin BlåbÆr on Friday when I was there. I would suspect they still have some.

 

Does anyone know what beers TG has available at the Hyvees in the DSM area before I hit the 3 of them. I was told p-hill, fleur and 35th WDM??

 

No TG available. Haven't bottled for a while and when they hit Des Moines they are gone in 2-3 hrs
