For what it's worth, I recall someone at Sixpoint (I think it was Shane, and possibly on this site though I can't find whatever I'm referring to) saying that they found the actual flavor of pumpkin really doesn't stick around in the beer. The sugars from the pumpkin ferment out pretty well, if I recall correctly. But again, don't quote me on that because I can't find a link right now to back me up on that.

I agree that the actual flavor of pumpkin is pretty bland and basically goes unnoticed.. but I recalled Autumnation having zero spices and zero qualities of anything that resembles a pumpkin ale.. It's a nice fall beer, but I remember thinking it was "false advertisement", lol..

Haha, fair enough. I suppose the labeling of "pumpkin ale" or something similar could rightly be assumed to indicate whatever "pumpkin ale" means to the majority of folks out there. So, probably a rich amber ale with a shitload of baking spices and some pumpkin-ish flavor; Autumnation would be a pretty big contrast to that.

I hope they don't exist.. that sounds dreadful. What about beer that is 'just' an IPA.. or Saison... or Vienna Lager.....

Because that's fucking boring, and I'm from America, so if I want a turd cutter ipa, I'll have it!

Well if there's not, they should get on that.

And you know what, while they're at it, an Oktoberfest IPA would be fantastic.

I tried to brew a pumpkin vienna lager once. Yeah, about that - oh what a failure. Now I know I'm not a professional, but I'll give credit to whoever can brew it good.

I know nothing about brewing beer, but brewing that sounds like a toughie.

still wondering why this is still labeled a pumpkin ale, I mean I like it, but all the times I've had, where is the pumpkin whatsoever in that beer?

Those folks taste buds must be shot because Mikkeller Koppi IPA smells like coffee and has a very up front coffee flavor. Maybe my buds were just poppin' that day. Pumpkin IPA could be nice if it's done up right.

Not even sure why I tried? Queue Dierks Bentley " What Was I Thinkin'?"

Only thing I can think of was incorrect sparging temperatures of the pumpkin. Maybe try again some day, sorry OP for kinda gettin' off topic. Feel free Derranged to BM me if you wanna know anything else about my homebrewing failures.

I don't think I would try that, but something tells me it might be close to a bad English IPA ....? maybe ...

Pretty sure this year they are completely removing any pumpkin/spice that was in the recipe to focus on fresh hops. Can't wait for this one, fresh all mosaic hopped beer. Should be awesome.
