Wrapping up a holiday with some friends! Good Morning and Happy Labor Day!

Found good reason to finally crack this awesome trade open with a fellow BA.

Ahhh, last night shift for a while. After 15 hours I deserve a tasty beverage. Too bad it's my last of these. Have a great day everyone!

This is the first American craft pilsner that I get to try and I've been looking forward to trying it. Upon tasting it I'm struck by a sense of familiarity, it reminds me of another beer and the beer it reminds me of is Boston Lager. Both the malts and the hops taste similar. It just so happens that this was part of a variety pack which included Boston Lager so I will make sure to compare the two. Boston Beer Company describe this beer as a Bohemian pilsner as opposed to a German pilsner, which makes sense. It's more malty sweet rather than dry, or bready and dry, the way German pilsners tend to be. It doesn't have any diacetyl notes that I can tell though, something which I get in some Czech pilsners (although not all, Budvar to me is about as clean of a pilsner as they come). I guess it makes sense as an American craft beer take on the pilsner style(s), but to me it fails to deliver the taste notes that I want in a pilsner.

Having had both beers side by side it's clear that Boston Lager is slightly sweeter and less bitter than Noble Pils and has a slightly heavier body, whilst Noble Pils has citrusy notes that Boston Lager lacks. As a a whole however the two beers share alot of characteristics, to a degree which I wouldn't expect from beers of such distinct styles, even if they are both from the same brewery.

Kate wAs the overall favorite. I've now had the 08, 11, and 12 and 08 with 5 years on it was beautiful. A lot like The Abyss. I loved Black Tuesday.

Nothing shouts Happy Labor Day more to me than a big beer from Chicago. Hope everyone enjoys theirs!
