Job is taking me to Atlanta for a day and wanted to see if anything was a must visit. Not sure what is available down there that I can't get in DC but always up to try new stuff. Thanks in advance for any help..
Brickstore pub, Porter Beer Bar, and Vortex in Little 5 are all within a train ride + modest walk or a short car ride of each other. Hit all 3 and you will be happy. (Vortex mostly because their burgers are insanely good but they got some decent beer too.) Green's on Ponce for take home shopping is only a few miles away and is basically the best store in town.
Brick Store Pub is an absolute MUST in my opinion. Fantastic food, great prices, and ridiculous beer selection, including a bunch of properly-aged beers. The 12oz Stone 2008 IRS was unbelievable. And if you look on their page on here, you can find out the BeerAdvocate screen names of the owners. Give them a shout beforehand and meet them while you're there -- you might even get a cellar tour!
The best spots were mentioned above and are the two best in all of Atlanta. Assuming you are actually in the city I would definitely hit Brick Store and The Porter. As far as the Vortex that was mentioned, I would definitely not go there if you are with co-workers unless you are all good friends and know that nobody in the group is easily offended. The artwork on the wall could be a little uncomfortable especially if you are in mixed company. He is right about the burgers, but I would just spend more time at either of the other places. That way you could have better (IMO) food and drink better beer too. If you want a second spot to hit in Little 5 Points, I would suggest the Wrecking Bar Brewpub. A couple more spots in Decatur near the Brick Store are Twain's Billiards and Brewpub or Leon's Full Service.
Definitely load up on Terrapin if you don't get that in DC. I'm smitten with Wake n Bake, personally.
Well thanks for the info but it seems my talents are required in another state (Texas). I will pass along the info to my buds heading that way and put in some requests if they make it to the bottle shop. Thanks as always, BA folk come through.
