Boulder, CO (September 6, 2013) – Upslope Brewing Company’s most highly anticipated Limited Release beer, Pumpkin Ale, is back on the scene this fall.

The 2011 Great American Beer Festival gold medal winner is brewed with baby bear pumpkins grown locally at Boulder-based Munson Farms and a custom blend of six spices to round out the flavor. In reaction to last year’s overwhelming response to this seasonal favorite, Upslope doubled the quantity brewed, but stayed true to their award winning recipe. Pumpkin Ale fans can look forward to enjoying even more of the familiar, aromatic and flavorful 7.7% ABV brew they fell in love with last fall.

“From the beginning, our Pumpkin Ale has been a labor of love,” said Dany Pages, Upslope’s Director of Brewing Operations. “Prepping hundreds of pumpkins for the mash tun is no small task. The logistics centered around the picking, cooking and carving that has to be done to yield 560 pounds of pumpkin meat every week are definitely unlike that of any other recipe that we brew.”

Eager enthusiasts wishing to be the first to try this year’s batch on tap can catch the unveiling at Upslope’s Pumpkin Ale Release Party, September 12, at their Flatiron Park tap room. The beer will be flowing all day, but the party kicks off at 6 p.m. with live music by the Felonious Smith Trio. Grub to go along with this gourd-infused beer will be provided by The Orange Crunch. The fans looking to pick up the, now, virtually iconic, copper-colored 16 ounce four-packs in stores, can expect to see those showing up on shelves starting October 1.

Distributor told me not to expect it until October. Now, I do not know if he was speaking to me, or the retail scene in general

October makes more sense timing-wise. Hopefully it will be easier to get with 2x the supply. Last year's disappeared quickly. It's one of the few pumpkin beers that can keep up with Pumpking, Oak Jack'd, and Schlafly.

:astonished: I've never had Oak Jack'd, but Upslope's Pumpkin is miles and miles ahead of Pumking and Schlafly in every way for me. It's the only pumpkin beer I've ever had that actually tastes like pumpkin.

I just hope they haven't raised the price this year.

We got the same info - October. Gotta have pumpkins to make the beer, right?

Oak Jack'd was lackluster for me, but so was upslope's. I've got two cans from last year still. It's all about Elysian dark o the moon and great pumpkin. Those are damned tasty.

Was last year's as good as previous years? Found it to good, definitely not great, but then again my favorite pumpkin beer is two year old Pumpking, besides maybe Fermentation w/o Representation, don't love the style though, so it could just be me.

They joys of different palates. I don't care for those. Both of them taste like licorice/anise overload to me.
What I like about Pumking, Schlafly, and Oak Jacked is they have a background of vanilla cream...at least to me they do. Upslope does, too, but it's not as strong. For me, that vanilla cream mellows out some of the massive spices that can numb your mouth after. Having a texture with some actual mouthfeel is a bonus, too. I do really like the new Imperial Pumpkin from Dry Dock, though. It's a pretty straight forward big spiced pumpkin, but that extra booze and sweetness stands up to it pretty well.

Not a pumpkin beer fan at all, but can usually do about one pint of the style a year. Then I am done.I would happily make this one my 1 pint. One of the few pumpkin beers that I enjoyed my experience with.

What has this world come to when a fall seasonal isn't released until after the actual start of fall? Doesn't Upslope know that "fall" means August now in the beer world? I suppose we can wait it out for some real pumpkin in the recipe! I'm usually not a big fan of pumpkin beers, but I had a can of the Upslope at Thanksgiving last year and was impressed. Of course, I also liked the Dry Dock Imperial Pumpkin I tried a few weeks ago, so maybe it was just a few bad early experiences with the style.
