Anyone been to wedding venues in the Mid-Atlantic with a good beer selection? I'm not terribly picky, but I'd like something better than Yuengling. SNPA + something else neat would be fine, though a broader beer selection would of course be better still. Back-up plan is to bring some fun kegs to a BYOB place.

So far we've seen Manayunk Brewing Co. but want to check out a few more. Pretty much anywhere in Maryland, Delaware, Eastern PA, or Southern NJ is in bounds. Suggestions?

Most places I've been in (mine and others where either my wife and/or I were in the party have their standard line-up, but if the bride/groom asks for specific beers they will get it. That might raise the per plate price, but they usually will accommodate.

Adding any sort of "premium" beer selection will definitely jack up your price if the venue is providing all the liquor. Depending on what you're trying to do overall, going with a venue that allows you to provide everything yourself might be the best option. Get quotes on total cost per person and compare to a venue/catering combo that just does the food and rentals without the booze included.

If it's in PA, you can have a distributor deliver kegs and set everything up (which is apparently required as far as I can tell).

Every place has their standard line-up, but from asking each of the places that we were looking at, they were willing to accommodate a couple specific requests. Where we signed our contact, we have the choice of 7 different, which I said 4/5 will probably be "non-traditional," which they were fine with. I'm not dropping bombs on them, but I gave a list of the 10 or so I'd consider, and they were fine with it.

Basically, it never hurts to ask.

I negotiated with my wedding venue to get Bells Two Hearted and Long Trail Ale on draft in lieu of some of their typical "house" macro drafts. It wasn't hard negotiations either...they were more than happy to accomodate. So ask if they will be flexible with their beer/alcohol before you eliminate a potential venue.

Sounds like most places are pretty flexible then, good to know. Thanks, all!

Places seem to be really flexible about bringing in your own stuff (especially if you are having an open bar as well). I will be brewing 15-20 gallons for my wedding (and I have done this once before for my cousin's wedding). I think that most venues understand that you will be dropping a ton of money at their venue and wont screw up that opportunity over a a few gallons of beer, so long as it is not breaking any local laws.

As I recall, we had 2 choices for the bar, regular and premium. Premium had 5 or 6 options of some of the bigger craft beers (Dogfish, SN, etc).
Since my wife and I actually met at a brewpub, I wanted to get something from there, also.
It was no problem, they very helpful.

There are unfortunately a lot of places where "premium" means Heineken and Michelob.
