I have the same problem with Trappist beers. I don't know what it is but all varietys kick my ass the next day. No matter the level of consumption. Two chimay beers and I am worthless the next am

You just drink too much, dude. It might be that beer specifically that has high fusel alcohols, but that's probably not the main issue.

I think most of drink a fair bit here, but it sounds like your consumption is pretty extreme. Just because you don't wake up with hangover doesn't mean that your body isn't negatively affected.

Trust me, I used to drink 2-5 high ABV beers/night to wake up at 4:45am and bang out an 8-10 mile run the next morning 5 days/week. I thought because I wasn't hung over, my body didn't care. Wrong.

High(er) alcohol content and lots of sweetness will do it to ya. Drinking more water will probably help you.

I realize that my overall consumption is a bit on the higher side. I don't hit the brew that hard every single day, but certainly a touch more than occasionally. What can I say, I sincerely love hopped grain beverages. It was just that these two particular post-saison hangovers were distinct anomalies and had a unique 'character' to the experience that really stood out in my lifetime pantheon of hangovery. And I was not the only one who experienced this after consuming the same beer. So it would seem to me that the two were somehow, you know, connected.

I think if you fail to hydrate you are more prone to hangover no matter what you are drinking. Now saisons are light refreshing and delicious and I always find myself having a little more than usual when I indulge in them. Next time try drinking water and lots of it between beers. =)

I know lots of people with MD 20/20 fiascoes, its like a "coming of age" for early drinkers.

First off, love the avatar and screen name, JamesQuaff! Quall really needs to have his own show!

While those on the other side of the fence definitely have some good points, I tend to agree with you and I noticed that certain beers really do me in the next morning vs. others. I can handle quite a bit anymore, I pace myself and I always load up on the water but the same amount of hoppier beers will almost always lead to a severe headache and middle of the road stomach issues the next morning vs. the same amount of less hoppier beers. But like others have said just because I wasn't getting bad hangovers in the past did not mean that I wasn't doing damage, and I am learning that now...

And on a somewhat related note, here is a stupid, "Oh yeah, I definitely shouldn't have done that!" moment I had just recently: while at a bar and over the course of just a few hours, I had one Ayinger Oktoberfest, one Stone DIPA, 1/3 of an Allagash that my friend couldn't finish, one ST Pumking (UGH this is the one that did me in, I am certain of this...why oh why did I drink this beer, I don't even really like it?!?) and one SA Octoberfest. The next morning was HORRIBLE and the absolute worst hangover I have ever had! :grimacing:

Yes, its a universal coming of age event. The only thing that came close to the raw disgust, agony, and pain i felt during my 20/20 fiasco was when i drank 3 or 4 wild blue after alot of other beer and smoked meats and Taco Bell.

There's a brewery in town whose beer is referred to by pretty much everyone I know as "hangover beer". It's not exceptionally high in alcohol, but you almost always feel like shit the next day even after a pint or 2. It's a mystery.

The worst headache I've gotten from drinking beer was Mystic Saison's first batch. Head started pounding within an hour of drinking the bottle and it lasted all night and through the next day - it rivaled the migraines I get on occassion. I haven't had an issue with other saisons - even after drinking way more than I should.
