Sipping Nelson now and, while it's good, it doesn't have that same fruity hop balance as Duet. Much spicier, plus the hint of rye. Very different, but second to Duet IMO.

Understandable, and I would never say duet is a bad beer. Having easy access to so many fantastic IPA's though, I think what really draws me to Nelson is that there's nothing else quite like it. I'm drawn to beers that are different, and in the realm of fresh IPAs, Nelson really stands out.

note: this isnt an ipa debate. ive seen enough of them on the forums

nelson definitely grew on me. at first, i didnt really care for it as i expected it to taste similar to many of the other ipas ive had. redbeeron is right, there really is nothing like it. its so unique. that said, i do prefer duet to nelson, but they are both great.

Dafuq you talkin bout bro? Everyone has to know the one IPA I would drink for the rest of my life if I had to choose, and anyone who disagrees with me is completely wrong because there's no possible way taste is subjective.

Do you even beer/general talk bro?

Finishing the night with a little after missing a big bell's event in Philly, with draft Black Note. Got this guy from a friend at the release early this year. A good beer night: super fresh IPA from Cali and delicious BA stout, both from
BA hookups (which are much better than other online hookups, but that's another story). Cheers, all! Sorry to sit out this bif-within-a-bif, but I need to focus on getting a pair of boxes out to people who are, not coincidentally in this bif.

*Sub-note to the side note to the BIF w/in a BIF that adds even more validity to my otherwise worthless opinion which I will not back up with any facts or references:

Having never had either and only recently being able to adjust my tastes to enjoy the hoppy IPAs, I'd have to say Heady Topper puts both to shame. This very subjective opinion of mine that is obviously correct is only further reinforced by it being listed as a Top 10 beer by BA which everyone here knows Is the official source of unbiased and unsubjective beer reviews.

    That is all.

Heady's good and all but man, it's no Pliny. #doyouevenhomerbro

... I have a two-month old Pliny in the refrigerator and have been too busy to drink it. :slight_frown: First world beer problems, sure, but I also could take it or leave it. It's a fine beer, and I'll enjoy it when I get to it.

Also... MMBrew's extra box and bonus swag should leave some time next week. My homebrew batch I've been waiting on is bottled and I just need to check that it's carbonating ok and that it didn't turn into something horrible that I'd feel bad subjecting others to (it was good when warm and flat during bottling), but his second box should be headed out soon.

So, MMBrew, if anything from box 1 made you say "I wish I had more of that..." let me know and I'll see what I can do...

I've some fresh Pliney and a Nelson landing tomorrow, so if somebody has some fresh Heady, send it over and I'll sample all three, pass my judgement and end this controversy once and for all.

Just kidding, don't send Heady (unless you really want to:wink:). I've had both Heady and Pliney many times, love them both, and don't think that I could pick a favorite. I'm excited to try Nelson, I've had Duet and Pure Hoppiness before and they were both great.

My 2 cents is probably not worth 2 pennies since I've never had Nelson, Heady or Pliny. But here it is anyway- the best IPA I have ever had is Odell's IPA.

This situation needs to be fixed.
Let me see what shows up tomorrow, but I should have a Pliney that I'll send you.

I'm not even an IPA guy, but since we all seem to be sharing our opinions and we know what they say about opinions:stuck_out_tongue: The best I've had is Lawson's Finest Double Sunshine on tap. I tried Heady on tap and several HF offerings the same weekend. To me the Lawsons blew them away.

I also had the Lawsons (very fresh) in bottle the same weekend and it was much better on tap

According to UPS, my target's package is now on a flight bound to it's final destination. So, it's time for your tracking number hint! The tracking number is as follows: 1zX - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -. As the clues come in, replace each dash with the answer. This first hint will cover the first four dashes.

If you took the crazy mother and very reliable father of the sibling to your state animal, combined them into one, had them run at full speed and then made them stop after approximately 22 hours, you would get the first four digits of the tracking number.

Zombie Dust is obviously the best Pale out there. All this talk of Pliny, HT, Lawson's, and Alpine is stupid. #midwestwalezbro

But seriously- Heady, Double Sunshine, Pliny would be my order. I have had no Alpine (:slight_frown:) so I can't comment on those, but I have heard they are delicious.

OK, I guess the only way to handle this fairly is for everyone to send me one of their favorite IPAs and I'll taste each and every one of them to determine the best.
A sacrifice I'm willing to make to keep you all from arguing about it.

Mine is DS/HT/Gandhi Bot/Pliny and I go with Pliny last due to freshness - until i have that one tap I cant move it ahead of those three.

but as far as Zombie Dust - it tastes like the old Flower Power to me

on that note i dont want the thread to stray from the topic - it may be shut down

When referring to Pliney, is everyone talking about Elder or Younger?
I think Heady is better than Elder, but I got to taste Heady (fresh from a can) and PtY (fresh on tap) at the same time and I don't think I could have picked a favorite if a gun was at my head. Trust me, I spent the better part of an evening trying to decide.
