I think adding the asterisk and calling them seasonal is a good move. This way people will know that these beers will be available sparingly, not every time they visit.

Hopefully sour ale season is coming soon.

The big bruhaha in Philly came from bottles that were registered and the LCB agent just didn't know that since they basically looked them up improperly. As far as I know, Brandon and Leigh won their case against the LCB though the confiscated beer was still ruined.

Regardless, if someone is knowingly selling an unregistered beer it is very different than some scumbag stealing a bottle and recapping it in your restaurant.

Now that Al has commented things are a bit clearer anyway. Clearly he's working on some way to keep a better hold on the bottles. I actually really admire the on-premise decision and the knowledge that the releases would totally upset the daily routine for that day. Considering Al's was super busy during a random Thursday for lunch when I visited, it totally makes sense.

There is definitely more than 1 place that did/does that.

We're clearly talking cross purposes then. Regardless knowingly selling unregistered beers is the owner breaking the law while someone stealing bottles from your establishments is on that individual. Since I'm betting now you'll say he could possibly lose his license from this but neither of us feels like digging through the law to prove it either way, we're at an impasse.

It doesn't matter either way because it's Al's place to do with as he sees fit and I'm sure he'll come up with someone reasonable in the next month or so and start selling bottles again.

Now that the confusion is all cleared up, can we get back to tracking the culprit down, and making an example out of him?

Most of this thread has been about how it is a horrible thing that he is stopping sales for a little bit, now you support that decision and say that he will probably figure out a better way to sell them?

I haven't said that all this entire thread. Others have, sure, and I asked a couple questions, but I never commented one way or another about the actual problem until that post. But you're clearly very upset and too busy to remember what you've read so maybe we should just stop responding to each other.

Are "ticks" really that important to some of you guys? Let Al figure out what he wants to do with on-premise bottle sales and in the meantime drink something else. He has 100+ taps for crying out loud.

EDIT: forgot to put on my homer hat.

Not for nothing, but during my visit we opted to try a bunch of the Pizza Boy draft offerings instead of the sours. I would caution people against bailing on a trip up there just bc the bottles are unavailable. With around 12 PB beers on tap and like 100 other options, it's definitely worth the trip (I live 2 hours away).

Sounds like Al has taken a page out of the Alpine Beer Co.'s book: It's my football and I'm going home.

This has been addressed already. There is a certain level of liability on the part of Al's of Hampden if the BLCE finds out an unlabeled, unregistered bottle left the premises. There are some questions around how much Al would be liable, but it would, nevertheless, create problems for them that they prefer to avoid. This incident brought to light the fact this is actually a fairly large issue, and this wasn't an isolated incident. Bottle sales were stopped until they can figure out how to handle this.

customer bottling sours in the can, al calling customer a fuck face, goes nuclear by taking all the sours off with seemingly no real solution to be had.

somehow i doubt the state liquor authority is inspecting stalls and handing out fines
