Should be available in the land of lincoln now. 9.99 at the local Binny's. Tasting great fresh. Didn't seem to last long on shelfs last year so stocking up just in case.

The HyVees in the Iowa City area had 4 packs for $9.99 when it arrived at the beginning of September, though I think they are sold out now

Just showed up in 4pks for around $10 here in Hickory, NC at my favorite grocery store. It sounded good, so I put it on my 'to try' list, but being new to the craft beer thing, I had no idea this was something potentially hard to find. I'll be sure to pick up a pack on my next trip over there.

What does it mean when someone puts a "ba" in front of a beer name?

I was unaware of the exact issue of why New York couldn't get it but I was really pissed since I was waiting for months for it to find out and then I remembered reading on here one day in late November/early December that it was not going to hit New York. However, I randomly walked into my local beverage center in early January and there were 4 four packs on the shelf. I snagged one and came back the next day and the rest was gone and they never got any more. I went to another shop up the road and they got one case in the same week, but it all sold out the same day.

It seems to go back to the distributors again. It seems that there are still stores throughout the US with 2012 still on the shelves. But, in the northeast it seemed like (pardon my double entendre) a whale...

You should have your head examined if you pay 4 dollars a bottle for it. Great beer. No doubt. But.... Never fall victim to price gouging. If we do as a community, we will just see more or it. This is a SN beer after all. It is semi-mass produced. No need to pay those prices. I look forward to it every year though. Unless I see it at 10 ish a 4 pack, the taste will be a distant memory. Vote with your wallet because no one listens to your words!

It was delayed, but the only ones I was able to get were from Rockland County, NY- so it definitely got there Maybe late Nov/earl Dec.

NNJ didn't get it because the aftermath of Sandy screwed with the delivery window for SN's distributor up here.

I still haven't seen any in either place yet this year, though.

In terms of availability and price, this is one of the top imperial stouts you can buy in my opinion. Fun and flavorful now. But my wife and I did a side-by-side, blind test of the 2013 and the 2012. Wow did the 2012 smooth out after a year. The 2013 is a little hot (though not too hot), but if you let it warm up a bit, it really opens up a lot. I would say 2013 is wonderful, but 2012 (aged a year) is sublime. If you like imperial stouts, this is a must-buy, especially given the price-point.

Narwhal has yet to make it to NYC/LI (ever that is) - aside from on draught

It's really pissing me off. Meanwhile shelf is loaded with Hoptimum (because it's not that good) and last year's BigFoot, because, presumably, consumers were not keen on the massive lift in price. Add to this that SN has given the boot to Tumbler in place of what is arguably SN's worst beer ever, Flipside Red IPA - I'm basically, and I never thought the day would come, done with SN (Celebration aside )

Weird I bought a 6 pack of flipside and thought it was pretty good. not great, but not bad. Better than the pale ale and torpedo which I don't really care for.
