How long before reporting as a "bad trader"?

    Hi, all--

Serious question here, so save the snark, please.

At what point does a non-responsive trader become a "bad" one? Right now, I'm in the middle of a trade where I sent my box (appx. $50 worth of beer, mostly shelf stuff) about 7 weeks ago, understanding that the other party needed "a little time" to get together his box. (Important note: this is someone I'd done successful trades with previously.) After about three weeks, he said he had my box ready to go, and was going to ship in the next few days. Since then: nada. I've sent several BMs to see what's going on, and according to his profile, he hasn't been on BA for over three weeks.

I'm more irritated than pissed right now, and just want a reality check from other BAs about whether I should be reporting him or not. Would you wait it out a little longer? If so, how much longer? I'm not interested in revealing his handle until I get some feedback about the situation, so please don't ask.

    Thanks in advance.

Do you happen to have his phone #? I usually exchange phone #'s with traders, for both fedex info and mine in case something happens online, (no access, banned, etc). If so, send out a text. If he doesn't reply within a day or so, I would go ahead and report him. 7 weeks of non-responsiveness is definitely more than enough time, as long as he agreed to send it out within a specified time period.

I don't have his phone number . . . we started trading before I knew to ask for it and I ended up never getting it from him. My bad, but I have been getting phone numbers from other traders ever since.

Ahh, in that case, I believe you can send one last BM. If you get crickets, its prob time to send him off to the bad trader list. Sorry to hear about your situation.

Interesting situation, if you've successfully traded with him in the past with no issues and he hasn't logged on in over 3 weeks then there could be something else going on. If he hasn't been active in over 3 weeks then he's not screwing anyone else over unless he's using a troll account in which case the bad trader report wouldn't matter. I wouldn't jump the gun just yet.

    A few options

a.) start a thread using his name and ask if anyone knows him or has contact info. clearly state its not a bad trader report yet but you're concerned because he hasn't logged on in 3 weeks

b.) google the shit out his name and find all the info you can. trust me, you'll be amazed at what you can find. you have his address, town he lives in etc. I'm willing to bet you could find other ways to contact him

    c.) out him

Personally, I would go with option b, a then c. Good luck! Oh yeah, be sure to check his account every day in case he does log on. If he logs on and doesn't respond I would give it a day or two then out him no matter what.

    Out him.

7 weeks, excuses, BS. No snark here... funny how many times posting a name pulls someone out of the woodwork.

I know I would not want to trade with someone that does not have the courtesy to at least keep me updated. I'd hope you send me the name via BM so I can add them to my do not trade with list regardless.

Again no snark here, but people that allow this stuff to drag on are why people keep doing it.
Your actual money has been invested, it should not be a waiting game.

This is true, the guy has had a long time and barring a catastrophic event you figured he should have at least informed you of something. I normally give people the benefit of the doubt which may not always be the wisest thing to do.

If you've gotten to the point of creating a thread to ask, you're already in "over-time"

Report away.... it could be rectified, but reporting now will do no harm, while waiting can.

Just a heads up..by checking your profile and doing a few minutes worth of searching it is pretty easy to see who you are referring to. You have already bascially outed him to anyone who wants to take a couple of minutes to check (or is an obsessive psycho like me)

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I sent one last email, saying I'll give him one week to explain himself, and then I'll report. The only reason I'm giving him a little benefit of the doubt is the history of good trades.

I saw your name, "Bad Trader" and immediately started thinking about our trade and had a small heart attack trying to remember if I shipped. Sorry to hear you're getting the shaft bud. Hopefully it works out.

I'd suggest contacting the people he has pending trades with and see if they're getting the shaft too. If it's a collective thing then something might have happened to him, or he is purposely falling off the face of the earth because he set up a bunch of trade and can't make good on any of them.
