There this afternoon, a lot left. Also picked up the last Bourbon Barrel-Aged La Petite Mort.

    Thanks for the tip.

IIRC, they did brew it; they just didn't like how it turned out so they dumped it (or let it keep aging??).

    http://www.boulevard.com/pasteurization-at-boulevard/

"Beginning with this year’s run of Bourbon Barrel Quad, we commissioned a flash pasteurizer used to stabilize the beer before packaging. Of all the methods of pasteurization, flash pasteurization is heralded as being the best regarding preserving the quality and integrity of the beer."

That's a damn good price. If we do see it out here in LA I'd bet it's $15+ (but I'd love to be wrong)

Two questions-1) Would both the greens (on buford hw and ponce) get this?
    2) Do you know if this would make it North OTP? I live in Alpharetta and have seen the coffee ale and the imperial pilsner at a number of places so would assume this would make it here.

This has been on my try list since it first came out although I did miss out then. Would be stoked to pick up one if I see it.

Well you have to remember the key word, aging. The cherries help mellow it out too. It's definitely a big improvement on the base. I do like the Sixth Glass though so maybe I'm just more partial to it.

Interesting. They've confirmed on here that previous batches of BBQ had a small portion of sour beer blended in before bottling, thus accounting for some bottles tasting like an infected beer with age. I suppose this means that will no longer be an issue if we want to age it.

inb4youcan'tagepasteurizedbeer: shut up, J.W. Lees says otherwise .

Drank a two-year-old bottle recently. Reminded me of a Manhattan more than anything else.

True. Didn't think of that. Hopefully it'll improve with age.

I've only had one bottle of fresh BBQ, but it was definitely better than fresh Sixth Glass. The aged BBQ I had was quite sour unfortunately (not bad, just worse than fresh). Boulevard has since confirmed they deliberately blend in a small amount of sour beer before bottling.

However, they also announced this batch is pasteurized, so getting sour with age shouldn't be a problem.

    1) I would think that they would. Green's usually splits allocations between the two stores, unlike Tower where the Piedmont location gets all the good stuff.
    2) I would check Crabapple Bottle Shoppe. They usually get some harder to find stuff, so I would assume that they would get this.

It could make up OTP, but I would imagine the higher volume places would get a better chance at it. Total Wine and stuff would probably get it though, and there are a few OTP. If the stores got Saison Brett and stuff like that, then I would imagine BBQ will be there as well.

Tower does split their allocations, but it's not 50/50. There was plenty of Sour in the Rye in Doraville for a long time, long after Piedmont sold out. It seems to be more 70/30, and with Doraville not being a destination as much stuff does sit longer.
As far as OTP vs. ITP, intown places always get bigger allotments. That's just the nature of the beast. You'll still see it come outside the perimeter and can pounce on it as long as you're tuned into social media. Saison Brett stayed around a long time at places less frequented. Hell, there's still Rye on Rye in the market, albeit limited and completely hidden out of the mainstream areas.

I was talking more for the extremely limited releases (KBS, Backstage series releases, Mexican Cake, etc.). Of course, I didn't really clarify that in my original posting. They obviously split allocations since they're the same store. Doraville just never gets the really good stuff. The only thing I can remember 'recently' that they received was the Barrel Aged Bigfoot; other than that, it's all Piedmont location.

Does anyone know what brand of bourbon barrels are used? I rarely see that info listed on any of the bourbon beers.

We have barrels from a variety of distillers including: Templeton Rye, 4 Roses, Heaven Hill, etc. We'll pick the barrels we like best and blend them together for bottling.
