Who in So-Cal makes a widely available DIPA in a six pack for, around $10?

I'll pick it up sometimes, but it's not one of my regulars because of the price. Same with Lot6, Double Jack and others in 4 packs. The marketing of 4 packs is actually pretty smart. I've watched people freak out over a 6-pack of Sculpin priced at $15 and then walk out with two 4 packs of other beers priced at $10.

No sir, and I hear ya on this one. Right now freshness isn't an issue for me since FD is close and it's a newer beer - everything is fresh. They do have a date on the bottle but it's a julian best by on the labels - talk about a combination of the two least friendly formats... The case I just picked up says 024, so counting 140 days backwards from 1/24/14, would be a bottling date of 9/6 I believe.

Who said anything about a six-pack, eeerbody knows the best DIPAs come in bombers and in kegs. 6-packs are for NASCAR fans and tailgating

I think you made it to the first of the four criteria and stopped reading.

When did Myrcenary start coming in 6-packs? I only see it in 4-packs.

I can agree with this. Torpedo is 7.2abv and Ruination is 7.7abv, so they are damn close enough. Torpedo for the price is awesome and it's widely distributed. PS: Love it in cans!

Yeah, and when did it become widely distributed? I can't find it on the east coast at all.

Had on draft and grabbed a 6pack at Perfect Pour for 11.99. This is a great DIPA and hope it's available in PA Soon. With this release, lot#6 and the upcoming release of Dirt Wolf, I see a great future for DIPA lovers in the Mid-Atlantic region.

With 12oz. bottle/can being the format for this little exercise, I used 6 pack as the standard with $12/6pk being my max price that I consider reasonable/affordable. If there are $8/4pk DIPA's out there, bring them on.

Lagunitas Sucks and Hop Stoopid must win this game if you're actually taking the factors that were initially posted.

Hop Stoopid isn't available in 12oz. format. Lagunitas Sucks is definitely in the running.

Doesn't everyone get Heady Topper? Sure, Just as I wish I could get Pliny.

I would say Stone's Ruination and Lagunitas Hop Stoopid for me (if Hop came in 6 packs)

I made a list of all of the beers mentioned in this thread. Two Hearted, Sea Hag and Torpedo are classified as IPA's so they're out.

Next we'll start with distribution. Just to keep it simple, if the brewery is listed as available on seekabrew, I included the beer, even though that may not be 100% true at this moment. I went with 25 or more states as the cutoff to for availability. That knocked out The Oracle and Double Jack (19), Exit 16, Alchemy Hour and Lake Erie Monster (13), Myrcenary and Perpetual (9), Dreadnaught (5), Lot 6 (4), Heady Topper, DRIPA and Gandhi Bot (2) and Bad Boy, Bodhi and Abrasive (1).

Next to go were Enjoy By, Green Flash Imperial IPA and Hop Stoopid due to the 22oz format.

The price cutoff I'm using is $2/12oz (6pk/$12). This is where those 4 packs start biting the dust. I used the State Line Liquors website because they have a product search that includes prices. I know prices will vary from region to region and store to store - this isn't meant to be definitive. Knocked out because of their 6pk price are Palate Wrecker ($21), Ruination and Leviathan* ($18) and Hoptimum and 90 Minute ($15).

*Leviathan DIPA wasn't in their inventory, but I recall seeing 4pks in the $12 range.

Which means, this completely unscientific list that probably includes several errors and is wide open for interpretation, discussion and feedback looks like this, ranked from highest to lowest rAVG:

    Lagunitas Sucks (36 states, $10, 4.38)
    The Truth (38 states, $10, 4.23)
    Hop Wallop (29 states, $12, 4.1)
    2XIPA (32 states, $10, 4.05)
    Maximus (36 states, $11, 3.96)
    Steelhead (27 states, $12, 3.82)
    Rampant (31 states, $9, 3.73)

Can you tell I'm having a slow day at work?

Are the 32oz. bottles out yet? If not, I'm going to leave it on the list for now in protest of the format switch and in memory of a damn fine beer packaged the way it should be. If the 32oz's are out I guess it should come down. :slight_frown:
