Saw this today and thought it was fairly interesting...Huff Post doing a breakdown of beer styles for those who are dazed and confused when looking at the beer racks in their store. Two things I thought were funny...Duvel as a recommendation for a pale ale (good luck comparing that to the other APAs they list) and a lot of the comments from macro drinkers.

Fun enough to read and flip through. It just needs a copy editor :stuck_out_tongue:

There are some curiosities in there... Newcastle is the best brown craft recommendation? I guess maybe as an intro the style...

Liberty Ale recommended as an APA? I always thought it was the first IPA. Maybe I'm wrong.

    Michelob on a craft list?

I like their porter list...though they forgot to type "STONE" :stuck_out_tongue:

"PiIke Stout Extra Stout" - I assume they meant Pike Street?

I don't think recomending Duvel along with SNPA is bad... if someone has both they can see both ends of the spectrum for the style.

Does anyone else find the video "The Right Way to Pour Beer" nauseating , or is it just me?

Their description of porter vs. stout could confuse more people than it helps. They imply that stouts are going to contain harsh notes that you will not find in a porter, yet anyone who's had Sam Smith Oatmeal stout will probably agree with me that it is damn tasty and anything but harsh. Many robust porters kick that beers ass in terms or roasty-toasty goodness and harshness. Also, since when are porters typically brewed with slower fermenting yeast? I know Baltic Porters are fermented with lager yeast strains typically but they make up a very small portion of the porter market. They'd have been better off combining the two into one slide with a very general description of what one might find in a porter/stout.

wow.....I thought the list was okay. Nice to see GL on there..

Comments section was just chock full of awesomeness.
    I like this one..
"Totally disagree, every beer should be poured straight and let to settle a bit. I think pouring sideward hurts the flavor of beer"
    or
How can you make a list of recommendations without 1 mention from the Leinenkugel's brewery in Wisconsin? They should be on all 10 categories of your short list

    Cheers!

I like how the caption below the video says "The right way to pour a beer (regular beer and Guinness)."

They do recommend some pretty pedestrian offerings here. Which is basically what I find to be the case for most articles written by magazines who are not actually devoted to beer.

I have learned to ALWAYS read the comments at the bottom of any online article I read...there are always gems that crack me up. I actually liked this one:

No beer is the best beer, used to drink beer and saw how stupid it was

Then why in God's name would you be reading an article whose link was titled "What Every Beer drinker Should Know"

This was hilarious. "Lol" doesn't even go far enough.

Also, why do they pick a bartender who doesn't know how to pour a beer to showcase how to pour a beer? I love these articles.

I see nothing wrong with non-beer websites, video and print media doing articles on craft beer to give the non-craft public some basic information, but...CAN'T THEY FIND SOMEONE WHO KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT CRAFT BEER TO DO THE ARTICLE !?

Editor: Hey Janice, hey Bob, you two drink that fancy beer, right? We need an article on it.
Bob: Yeah, in fact I had a Budweiser American Ale just last night.
Janice: I was going to pick up some Blue Moon after work. We can have one while we work on the piece!

IPA's have been around since the 1800's so I doubt Liberty Ale was the first one.

I know that you guys think that list sucks, and that you're a super cool-hardcore beer geek because you've progressed beyond all those beers, and that you now only drink teh Pliny and KBS.
But... it's a great list for a beginner looking to explore and learn about different beers.

Brutal dumbing down article. As much as I love technology the Cult of the Amateur continues to whip up waves of ignorance.

I have never had a Pliny and I only had KBS on two occasions, both at festivals. That being said...I do think I am super cool-hardcore.

Kind of makes you wonder if our media-derived perception of world affairs, politics, the economy, etc. is also first strained through a waist-deep filter of ignorant, half-assed bullshit.
