I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just got an email saying this event cannot be over 20 people if we are to have this at Tribes. I think we might need to look for a different location, as I know between my friends and ba's that we'll easily be over that number. Any suggestions??

That's too bad - though over 20 seems more potentially clusterfucky as well as less a gathering and more an event. Especially at a pub where people are bringing their own brews. I can understand Niall's concern....

You could try to locate a BYOB restaurant with a bit of space, and make some sort of catering arrangement. A la "we'll buy enough pork sandwiches and fries for 30 people if you let us 30 people show up and use your space for X hours". And then just divide the cost of the food by the # of people. Or, if math isn't your thing make everyone throw in $10, and whatever you go over just leave as a nice fat tip for the workers of said restaurant.

I have a few places in mind that might let us rent space. Curious to see how much $$ they'd want to let us have this event though.

Right now I bet we have at least 30 people. I think we'll have a more exact number once everyone rsvp's.

Can always sell 20 tix via brownpapertickets so people who were pissed about not getting FOBAB tickets can then get pissed about not getting Faux-bab tickets

Be sure to sell 18 of them to your friends first, so there's only two available online.

What about reserving a spot at like, a forest preserve shelter. Those are usually free, or very damn near free. They might have laws against glass bottles though.

I think if you have more than 25 people you need a permit. At least in Cook County. And no alcohol within 50 feet of roads or parking lots.

I think Will County is a bit more lax.

Yes but the permit is easy to get. Never heard of that 50 foot rule but thats not a big deal as these shelters are usually at least hundreds of feet away from parking lots. The only thing I don't remember is if there was a rule about glass bottles.

Heres a link to cook county picnic permits. Doesnt say anything that I can see about glass bottles, but I think they close for the season on October 31st.

I'm all for options but my initial reaction is that kind of defeats the original South Suburb thing.
Unless that's out the window now...

I think most of us live on the south side, so the preference would probably to keep it down here on the south side.

Being that the owner just did a stint, they might be a bit more cautious but I doubt it.
