Pumking came out so early this year that it is almost gone here in the Charleston area. Glad I have plenty for later when it actually cools down!

Stoked for Troegs to hit the market with a pumpkin beer that comes out at the logical time.

The pumpkin beers have been out for way too long. It does kind of ruin the nostalgia of drinking it in the fall.

I love the ST Pumking, but imo, the Schlafly pumpkin ale is nearly as good, and you get a 6 pack for about the price of a Pumking bomber. Better bang for your buck.

So, I had my first bottle of Southern Tier Pumking this past week. And while it was a nice enough brew, I was totally let down by the fact that it wasn't a stout. I'm not sure why I had the impression that it was a stout, but that's what I was expecting when I walked into the store to buy it. Of course when I saw it on the shelf I became aware that it wasn't a stout, but bought it anyway. And maybe that initial dissapointment influenced my opinion of it when I did drink it.

So my question is this: are there any pumpkin stouts out there? I know of Southern Tier Warlock but most people are saying it tastes almost exactly like Pumking. I'm looking for something that is thick (like Ten Fidy) and pumpkiny. Maybe with some chocolate flavors (or coffee?) in there too?

    Does such a thing exist?

I don't think I've ever had any quite as full bodied as Ten Fidy, but I did enjoy Cape Ann Fisherman's Imperial Pumpkin Stout. I'm also a fan of Elysian Dark o' the Moon.

Elysian Makes Dark of the Moon Pumpkin Stout. Also, they're not quite stouts, but Oakshire has Big Black Jack Imperial Pumpkin Porter, and Epic/DC Brau collaborated on Fermentation without Representation Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter.

This is where blending enters the picture- maybe 1/3 Pumking and 2/3 Brooklyn BCS- and you'll come uo with just what you're looking for.

I agree about the Warlock, btw- not enough Stout quality. My last one is going in an ice cream float one of these days, maybe with a little chocolate syrup.

You are looking for crown valleys imperial pumpkin smash, it has all the full bodied and roasty stout characteristics along with pumpkin and spices mixed in

Redhook came out with a Pumpkin porter this year that is definitely worth a try at the price, I liked it a lot.

You're disappointment with Pumpking was not because it isn't a stout, but because it is disgusting.

EPIC's pumpkin porter had some coffee/chocolate notes in it, but I didn't get much pumpkin from it, at any rate. I had the Elysian Dark o' the Moon recently and while I didn't think it was stellar, I'd actually get that one again over EPIC's.

Crown valley makes a pumpkin stout that I like and I do not usually like pumpkin beer

Crown Valley has a Imperial Pumpkin Stout that was really good. Not as thick as the Founders or Oskar Blues Imperial Stout but still a good "Sweet" stout, if you can get it. Also they come in 6 packs for $10, not a $9 bomber and pack a punch at 10.6%
