Hunterdon confirmed today that Nugget Nectar, Curmudgeon's Better Half and Ballast Point bombers are all shipping to accounts this week. Wouldn't get too worried about nugget nectar because pretty much every store that sells any craft beer at all will have it and plenty of it. So don't be a d'bag and buy 5 cases from your local store on the first day it comes out.

Better half seems to be getting the same distribution as CBS without the locations posted on greatbrewers.com so we're in the dark about who's getting it but we can just assume the same stores that got CBS and this should have a little less hoopla but I'm pretty sure there's at least 12 beer geek regulars that shop at every store that will be getting this beer. So at least we know we're not fighting with random peeps for this beer and every bottle will likely go to an appreciative beer geek home.

And welcome back to the market Ballast Point. Can't wait to start having fresh Sculpin readily available.

Founders tweeted to hunterdon tonight they'd like to discuss their distribution of better half in Nj.

@foundersbrewing: @hunterdonbrew We will email you directly about better half distribution in NJ
Wonder if they got complaints that hunterdon ignores the the bottom half of jersey.

As for Ballast, are they shipping regularly now? Last year at this time we got a one off shipment of sculpin and victory st sea and nothing after that. Has it confirmed they'll ship like lost abbey regularly?

I work at a liqour store in Monmouth County and the resident beer geek there-name of store in profile info. Ballast Point and Nugget Nectar should not be heavily allocated.Better half is going to be insanely allocated. Oak Tree and other stores that have good order history with Hunterdon. Being that it would be improer to advertise my store on here. I will not disclose the amt of Nugget Nectar and Sculpin we are getting. Another rule of thumb with allocations from Hunterdon is that stores with order history(obviously)and chains that operate together get the most.

As for founders it seems like hunterdon allocates based on sales of founders beers alone when determining accounts that get allocated founders beers. Other breweries they allocate based on total hunterdon purchases. Other breweries go based on reputation because we all know there are smaller stores and bars that have been hunterdon customers since day 1 that would never be able to do buy-rite or joe canal's volume but deserve things based on history. Allagash I also know goes based purely on allagash sales. Of course if the purchaser doesn't think to ask for a product or turns it down it goes down the line. CBS was 20-25 stores(don't remember the exact number) and one bar for bottles. A few random kegs made it out there a few weeks later but was based purely on founders sales volume. No one knows for sure if better half is as rare as CBS but assume its pretty close to as rare.

Totally Agree tigernipples. When it comes to Southern Monmouth/Ocean County and south we're second class to Hunterdon. We get stuff weeks later, or don't get stuff at all. Since a small portion of north Jersey is their priority, why not let them service who they want to service and let another distributor open up for the other part of the state that they don't care about? Even big, craft-heavy stores outside Philly don't get stuff as soon as some North Jersey stores. Last Founders release literally 90% of the stores that got it were in a 20 mile radius in North Jersey.

Looking forward to tracking down some Ballast point and better half (hopefully my beer guy will have some bottles in the back. i haven't asked him about it yet). Set for NN right now - grabbed a case in PA over the weekend - but i'll grab another 2 6's this week at the regular spot.

Yea, Hunterdon gets a lot of complaints in the circle of liquor stores/beer geeks in my area of south NJ. I would love some better half, and i've been requesting breakfast stout for just about a year now.

I don't know one fan in ocean or monmouth county. I picked up better half last week sitting on the shelf in VT. I am not even going to the store, but I would love to score a sixtel of NN.

Not yet but I was told a lot of the stores deferred getting new stuff until next week because of the St. Patrick's Day celebration planned for this weekend - my preferred bottleshop only got the Nugget Nectar new this week (the rest of the order was Guinness and cheap BMC beers).

i thought Hoboken wasn't allowed to do st. pat's this year? lol....or is there just no parade?

I just moved to Hoboken from Manahattan and have heard all about that parade. Is it just a total terrible stupid mess or actually fun?

The parade was moved to a Wednesday this year. The all day party will continue to be the first Saturday of March as it's always been. Prepare for a mob of overly intoxicated people roaming the streets of Hoboken all morning/afternoon. Your options are to go to a party or pay a gross cover charge to wait an hour to order a beer at any of the bars in town.

    This.

It's pretty much amateur hour....unless someone has a party at their house then i guess it could be pretty cool.

Just had my first nugget nectar ever. Is it me or does it sorta, kinda, maybe taste similar to Pliny The Elder??

They taste completely different to me, as I like Pliny the Elder and I hate Nugget Nectar. IMO, Pliny is citrucy and floral, with a nice balance between malt sweetness and hop bitterness, while NN smells like grapefruit and tastes like grapefruit pith and grapefruit rind.

I think Sculpin and Flower Power are similar to Pliny. I can't think of anything else I've had that was close to Nugget Nectar.
