Yeah they do, buddy. Upslope uses roast pumpkin, Elysian uses roast pumpkin seeds.

Pumpkinator uses quite a bit of real pumpkin. The brewers hate the day they scrape em but love the result.

It's delicious! Have a pair in the cellar and may see if I can grab another. Mighty tasty!

You appear to be against the use of canned pumpkin for some reason. Canning is a way to preserve pumpkins. Pelletizing hops is a way to preserve hops. Are you against that as well?

There is a huge difference between fresh pumpkin and canned pumpkin. Taste them sometime, you will be surprised.

I pretty sure I remember a scene in DFH's Brew Masters TV series of a brewer opening 1 gallon cans of food service pumpkin puree and dumping them in the brew kettle, using one of those plastic scrapers to get out every bit of pumpkin goodness gunk. Someone with the availability of the series could confirm or deny.

Williamsburg Alewerks Pumpkin Ale roasts their own pumpkins. Also another good one to try, if available, is Greater Pumplin by Heavy Seas. They used bourbon barrels. It's a fantastic brew!

I'm not a pumpkin beer fan and I really enjoyed Elysian NIght Owl. Very crisp and balanced between the pumpkin and spices. Excellent!

I think this is one of those things where y'all are both right...in part. The sparing use of spices can help bring out the flavor of the pumpkin. When making a cocktail, you can simulate any number of flavors (or create the impression of flavors) by using something that evokes a taste memory of sorts..and I'd imagine pumpkin pie spice fits that idea.
I personally prefer my pumpkin beers with a very, very limited amount of spice. I think there is a natural crispness to beer brewed with pumpkins, and all it takes is a hint of spice to accentuate that. I like pumpkin beers, not pumpkin pie beers.

If you like that funky vegetable flavor you would probably like Shipyard's Pumpkinhead too.

I've actually given that one a couple of go's and both times found it to be pure swill, and would not recommend anyone drink it. Also pretty sure there is no real pumpkin used in brewing it!

As many have stated Rogue's Pumpkin Patch Ale, and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Wolaver's uses real pumpkin as well.

Honestly, Pumpkinhead is one of my least favorite pumpkin beers, but I wouldn't call it swill. It's a polarizing beer though...people either seem to either really like it, or really dislike it. It's light on spices and one of the few pumpkin beers where the veggie/pumpkin flavor is quite noticeable, which can be a little surprising to people expecting something closer to "liquid pumpkin pie."

Is that confirmed about the release? I've asked around and nobody seems to know except that they've pureed the pumpkins already. Website says October but no exact date.

Nope just a guess. I saw on their instagram account that they did the puree a couple weeks back so it may be sooner. I thought that last year came around Thanksgiving but I could be wrong about that too

Hair of the Dog's Greg tastes an awful lot like pumpkin.

I didn't taste a whole of pumpkin in it last year. Just a lot of rum and sour.
