I'm from Orlando, so I would consider myself non local. Lets not generalize here. Shitty people are shitty people regardless if they are non local or homegrown.

Valid point. I'm sure some shitty locals took em too.

At a lot of events I have attended in Germany and Belgium, you pay a deposit on the glass. NERAX also does this in the Boston area. More breweries should go to a deposit system.

Yeah, i agree. It sucks to see good people get ripped off by losers. Sadly, many have the attitude of people like kudos rather than being true beer advocates.

I know many take your CC if you open a tab. I guess they need to start making sure you return your glass before getting each pour or closing it out?

    Sad.

Hate it, but why not incorporate $3 extra for your 1st beer and you keep the glass? Easy, no plastic cups required.

Mighty fine idea there. Similar to what Sams Quik Shop (here in NC--shop not a brewery) does. More breweries should do this. Its free advertising once they leave the bar.

Wouldn't bother me at all. Already got a snifter member glass I paid for.

Then they'd just steal the 2nd, unless you are also suggesting they reuse the same glass all night.

You could just return the glass when you get your next beer and so on through out then night.

Agreed. There were probably about 200 people there. I really doubt 95% of the people stole a glass

    Hey Everyone!

First off I appreciate everyone's support on this. This was something that I originally posted on my personal facebook page out of sheer disappointment. It ended up being a great event, with great people and unfortunately a few shitty people made it bittersweet.

We do our best to avoid using plastic cups for beer events. You guys are on here because you are beer enthusiasts, so are we. Good beer shouldn't be poured in plastic cups. Knowing that we were having this event we ordered 10 more cases of snifters, that way we wouldn't be constantly running out. Our plan was to put those back in the boxes after the event and save them for future events. Unfortunately, it was pretty shocking when we could only fill 1 of the 10 boxes. Even though we probably only broke 6 or so glasses, I counted 1 box as broken and 8 boxes as missing.

I think pre-charging people for a glass might work, but it doesn't seem fair to people that don't want a glass and weren't planning on stealing one. Plus it still doesn't help for those who took multiple. A friend of mine overheard someone mentioning they saw someone walk out with 6 glasses.

We will not be going to plastic cups so long as we could avoid it. What I hope will lessen the theft is non-branded glassware. If that doesn't work we will be forced to go to plastic. If they steal the plastic, we will just use long hoses from the taps and pour directly into people's mouths.

Again, I really appreciate everyone's concern. We had a great turnout and a great time!

It doesn't mean 95% took a glass, it could be say 25% took multiple glasses.

Seemed like at least 300 filtered in as the night went on if not more. Wouldn't be surprised if it was 400 total. Probably weren't there simulatenously, but I was there from 3pm til 10pm and saw a lot of people leave and other people come.
Not to mention it went until 2am, so there was probably some late comers too.

Hopefully they just misplaced them or something silly, that would be awesome and would embiggen my heart.

That was me, brought back the one my buddy walked off with. I smacked him in the back of the head. Didn't want bad beer karma so we brought it back to Oakland Park and watched football there all day.

Even as we showed up around 7, pretty much anyone we saw walking out to their cars had glasses in each hand with beers still in it.

Hmmmm... Sounds like they need to just post an employee at the door to prevent folks from walking away with glasses full of beer.

It's unfortunate but we are talking about a $500 hit here for FB and it sounds like it was a great event and a lot of beer was poured so I am sure they still had a good night revenue wise. And if people were really walking out the door with multiple glasses or glasses filled with beer (as was posted earlier), I am sure there had to be servers that were aware of this so some of the blame at least lies within. It's hard for a waitress whose thrown a big tip to police this (nor should they have to). Sounds like they will have something in place to guard against this happening again.
And I look forward to visiting the Brewery for the 1st time when I am down there Xmas week and promise to leave my glassware on the table when I leave.

Has this ever been a problem for other breweries in the past? Asking Gun and Ring, particularly.
