I was digging around at my local store and noticed the new labels behind some older bottles and even those were three months old. It made me realize that it's been a year or so since I've had good sculpin. Thoughts?

Agreed, I honestly kinda gave up on it, its a bit on the expensive side anyways

The old labels should be a giveaway.

I haven't seen a new shipment come in to my local shop in a while. Actually, all three of their IPAs have kind of gone MIA. Dorado, Sculpin, and BigEye.

I live in CT and have only ever had good Sculpin on draft. Bottles are always old and dusty.

Last time I had it fresh was in San Diego 2 weeks ago. Plenty of bottles, cans and drafts of it. I had it a few times, but theres other beers id rather have than spend $15.99 on a 6 pk of cans anyways.

In MA we just started getting it in 6 packs. Its great fresh. But I hear you with 22s. Expensive and usually been on the shelf for a while.

We get it in NY frequently with just a month on it. Sadly it is one of the most inconsistent beers made by a reputable brewer

My local guy in NC gets it super fresh and only lets the distro leave it when it is fresh. He only gets what he can sell fast then it is too bad--wait till next time. Therefore it is never old but runs out. Last time I got it--2 weeks old--pretty good from West Coast. My very favorite and I find it consistently good.

Yeah its been around a year for me since I've last been able to get Sculpin under the two week freshness threshold.

In PA the ~$65 a case for bottles isn't exactly appealing to someone who wants to try something new. I've been calling around looking for places that carry cases of cans, but to no avail.

Got fresh stuff in my local shop with a enjoy by date of 12/15/13 but he recently sent a few bottles back because they had passed their date. Also if you're looking to save money you could buy a keggerator AND a sixtel of Sculpin for what it would cost you to buy the same amount of beer (oz for oz) in bottles.

I've enjoyed Sculpin in the past, but frankly, my reaction is, "who cares." The next time I'm out in San Diego, maybe I'll grab some, but here in NY, why would I bother with an absurdly overpriced, generally ancient beer when there are so many better ones available from the northeast? It feels like Sculpin is still riding its former glory, without realizing that it's not that special any more...

Sculpin is a teriffic beer but if you don't live close to CA it's probably better to just drink a good, fresh, local IPA. For me, luckily, that's Gandhi Bot.

I was in Dallas a few weeks ago and lucked into some cans that were about a week old (13246 date code). I felt fortunate and they went fast.

Agreed that it's amazing fresh, also agreed that it's difficult to find fresh, also agreed that it's too damn expensive.

My go to spot in Western Md just got 6+ cases yesterday. All dated September 17th. Yay!
Also got about 5 cases (after raising hell with the distributor) of fresh FinestKind (Best by 3/14). Double Yay!
