Would you be able to sell growlers as well? Might be another way to boost income. I know laws can be strange.

I don't see any reason why I cannot. But it may be a brewery caveat. I'll call ABC to verify on Monday.

Would you have any recourse if the state employee at ABC gives you erroneous information over the phone and you are subsequently charged with a violation of the Kentucky Liquor Laws?

You are just really against this guys idea. I don't know if you're trying to treadshit or what but it's not necessary

He asked for forum help so I am just trying to help him out which is what he asked for. What I mentioned is a legitimate issue he needs to consider. So why is that objectionable to you? Would it be better to just ignore that issue when I have dealt with these things for 30 plus years as an attorney? Or should I let him know this could be a matter which may cost him a lot of money in legal fees in order to defend himself by relying on an answer from a state employee?

I would have passed, a landlord relationship is way too critical. Too much at stake IMO, I would have told him to shove it.

Well i think that is a good point. Truth of the matter is they publish the law. So they cannot deviate too much. Of course there us loose interpretation. I deal with that on home inspections sometimes. But it isn't the norm.

I was right there with you. But i decided to take a more diplomatic approach for once in my life. Who am I kidding I do that all the time. It gets results. This guy is now going to work with me and keep the dream alive.

Don't overdue it on food either. Small fried selection maybe. Worry about your beer menu first. You want a bar not a restaurant correct? I'm not being an ass I hope but it's just my 2 pennies from a craft beer freak.

Not doing food at all. Will work with local places but won't serve food.

A few places here don't do food, they allow carry in/call in's, maybe a truck etc. It works too, if the beer is good and the experience good.

    That was an interesting read.

I hope it works for you. There is a place here that is tiny but I love it. Mainly, no, ENTIRELY because they have a great beer selection.

If I have to choose space to lay down or good beer, I choose good beer every time.

Then I just lay down wherever I want.

No food is smart- throw some pretzels out there and concentrate on getting the good beer on tap. The idea of a "small fried food selection" from another poster sounds fine until you look at the real world requirements of the gas line, ventilation hood, fire suppression system, added licenses...etc.
jeff52 may have come off as harsh to some of you, but to those of us stupid enough to have gotten into the bar/restaurant business know all too well of all the little things we WISH we thought of when chasing our "dreams".
    Good luck to you, OldWade!

Since there are probably local competitors with a stronger traditional sports presence and the set-up that those types of fans look for (28 55-inch plasma screens and volume so loud you can't hear your mates, causing most of them to yell at each other), have you considered becoming known for showing some of the more peripheral college sports such as soccer, maybe lacrosse? Is there a university channel that you could pipe in that gives access to other options?

I think that is a great idea. The space has already determined a more low key atmosphere but that doesn't mean it can't be sports friendly. I wouldn't sweat the food. Good luck and I am looking forward to seeing the photos of the place once it's ready. =).

I don't think I will ever do food.
