I'm driving down to SF tonight and back through the east bay tomorrow and was wondering if anyone has seen any 3F Oude Gueuze, Tilquin Gueuze, Girardin Gueuze, or any Cantillon Gueuzes at the local shops recently? I was planning on probably stopping by some combo of Healthy Spirits, City Beer Store, and Beer Revolution on the way home tomorrow, but would check out some of the other stores around the city if they have a good Gueuze selection, even if it's not necessarily the above mentioned ones. Thanks for any help.
Alright I'm here in the city with a couple hours before I need to be back to Sonoma county. I'll be back down in SF and Oakland on Sunday but was still hoping for some help with where to pick up some good Gueuze or even some 3F Oude Kriek or in a perfect world some Cascade Apricot or other good lambics. Where are all the bay area sour fans at? I can't just survive on Beatification for my Gueuze fix, I need the real thing!
Those stores are your best. 3F Geuze is pretty easy to find, Tilquin may be around (but I doubt it), some of the Girardins are going to be around, Cantillon won't unless you get very lucky. Cascade Apricot may be at City Beer, I bought one there like a year ago, but more likely just the Kriek. 3F kriek is surprisingly uncommon, I see the Schaerbeekse much more.
I think many lambic fans choose to buy beers from Etre Gourmet & Belgium in Box now. I haven't seen any Cantillon around for more than a year.
The whole foods in oakland on bay place had cantillon gueuze when i was there in march. I have no idea if they still do though.
Etre Gourmet is pretty great and I've got to imagine they will be my go to Cantillon source due to their great prices and quick shipping. I already drank a couple of the ones that I ordered from them a month or so ago, so it's probably time to even pick up a case of some of the regular Cantillon Gueuze. I stopped by City Beer and picked up a bit of Tilquin, a little on the pricey side but I suppose it's better than no gueuze all. It seems like Hanssens is pretty much available at all of the places I've been to over the last couple months but there was no 3F Gueuze at Healthy Spirits or City Beer, although at least there were a few bottles of 3F Oude Kriek at Healthy Spirits. Beer Revolution will have to wait till Sunday, so hopefully they'll have something I'm looking for when I come back down in a couple days. I'm still waiting for the elusive normal Fantome Saison to pop up at a shop when I'm around instead of the 8 other Fantomes or so that I always seem to see. Any other suggestions for shops that carry any 3F (besides just the Schaerbeekse Kriek) would be appreciated. I would much rather support some of the local stores than have to resort to ordering most of my favorite beers from overseas.
Not 100% certain, and it's a bit out of the way, but I believe Øl Beershop in Walnut Creek had the "regular" Fantome when I last looked (that was a few weeks ago, though). Can't help you with the 3F, though - other than the same few too-rich-for-my-blood bottles of Scharbeekse Kriek I see every time I go to Ledger's, haven't seen any anywhere lately.
If you're willing to drive toward East Bay, I believe Perry's Liquor still have some 375ml 3F Oude Geuze 2010. Monument Wine & Spirit has some 3F Oude Geuze last time I checked.
