A few days in San Antonio...

This one just hit stores... It's the only 5 Stones I've tried... I liked it, but I enjoy orange wheat beers.

 

Drive to Jester King? What about that big hops growler station?

 

Jester king is only open Friday to Sunday

 

Ah. I read the OP again.

 

A few other spots closer to downtown that haven't been mentioned:

The Luxury: outdoor spot along the river with great sandwiches (get the crispy fish banh mi) and a good beer selection 12-16 taps. Lots of bottles.

Boneshakers: small little bar that is certainly trying. 10 or so taps depending on how many are empty. $3 pints until 8 pm.

Tuk Tuk Taproom: same story as Friendly Spot. Great taps but might want to ask about prices before you go ordering something on the rarer side. Served up with asian street food. Nice back beer garden.

Luke: already mention but best happy hour downtown. 50 cent oysters and half price beers. A dozen oysters with a 512 Pecan Porter = success.

Stella Public House: in the blue star arts complex. 12-15 taps. Local and national. Good food.

My advice on Freetail is check the current draft list online before you drive out there. It can get pretty dismal midweek. Some fresh hop beers on now though.

 

Isn't Blue Star downtown? Does anyone actually go there?

 

First time I went there (and last time too BTW) I thought to myself... " This water tastes nasty"... Turns out I was drinking one of their beers. Lol the only place worse I've been to is Port Aransas Brewing... But at least they have decent guest bottles and good food.

 

I tried some of their stuff at the flying saucer recently. The oatmeal stout was ok but the amber tasted like cider, which was weird

 

The last time I was at Blue Star was in 2007... and it still wasn't that good. I'm surprised they're still around.

 

Most likely because of first Friday every month. Also DT and south town have gotten a lot popular. To me at least. I went to every FF freshman through senior year. I graduated 09 and it seems a lot more popular but maybe I'm just now realizing it. I digress. It has a nice location.

 

Any good bottle shops out by sea world? Heb had nothing

 

You're about a 20 min drive up 1604 to Gabriel's, which has a pretty sweet selection. Bonus points: it's right next to Freetail Brewing, and they do $2 off growler fills on Sunday. You can also snag a couple bombers of their Hopothesis fresh hop IPA.

The HEB near Freetail has a pretty good selection though.

 

The potranco and 1604 has good stuff. Or bandera and 1604. Potranco is close but bandera is better.

 

When I was at te potranco one about 2 days ago they had about 6 cases of pumpkinator if you're interested.

 

Potranco heb? Do they carry Avery, fw, or Oskar blues?

 

They have some Oskar blues but not and they have like one bomber from Avery. I know Bandera has a lot. Bandera isn't that far.
