I'm with you haknort. I absolutely don't think it's unreasonable to expect $200 worth of beer if you paid $200, especially since the language implied that you would "get your money's worth." The idea that some people seem to be proposing, that the surprise nature of the box is worth anything, is utterly false.

However, I honestly expected you to get worse beer. Bois, DDBA, and Tart of Darkness are pretty great. I know that's not the point though.

LOL! The box would have been worth more without it, save on shipping. (Who in their right mind would pay $12 for ANY Indian Wells beer?)

Those beers are awesome. I also have ten liquor stores near me that have at least ten bottles of each of those on the shelf, gathering dust.

I think that's the thing that bothered me most. I don't mind paying extra for beers that are hard to get. A parabola or Velvet Merkin instead of the DDBA would have been nice. Or a Fruet variation instead of Bois. Or anything instead of the Indian Wells.

    And a $6 Oliva taking up space in a $200 12 pack? :slight_frown:

If you look at their site they have other "collections" that are also overpriced. Check the firestone walker collections and maybe you will see a similar price discrepancy. I also know that customer service on a mail order site can be exasperating if they want to put you off. I agree that the fact of their own pricing of the individual bottles shows them to be cheating him is cause for a refund. Or at least the refund of the difference in price. If he cannot get satisfaction I would contact the relevant BBB.

Exactly. The mystery gamble in the mystery box is that you might get some bottles you don't really like, not that you will get less than $200 worth of beer. It would be a completely different, although equally shitty story if they included $200 of garbage beer, but to only include about $160 worth of beer and charge $200 is flat out deceptive.

Was the Ovila Quad the regular one or the Brandy Barrel one?

I didn't seen this ending well. But the Indian wells brought this to a whole different level of shit.

I'm pretty sure one of the guys from there got busted by Cascade for using other persons credit cards and having a bunch of beer shipped to him, more than one person is allocated, and then selling it in his store for inflated prices. I think he sells Zombie Dust in the store for $8 a bottle, and a few weeks ago, someone put a pic on Instagram of a bottle of Blackheart being sold there for $18. I've heard from others that they sell New Glarus 750s for $35-40 as well. That's some shady business right there. I would avoid at all costs.

I work at a liqueur store, and we keep good bottles from multipacks that have had a bottle broke for 24-pack mystery boxes. We have specific rules we follow: no domestics, no mixing of ciders and beers, no more than 3 of a specific beer. We sell them for $16.95. Employees will get pissed at our "beer guy" when he does stupid shit like add domestics or put in 6 of one beer! So, I have no qualms with expecting the employees of this website to take care with how they build their mystery boxes. It really doesn't take much effort to get right.

Looking to see how this is resolved, looks like you got the process started OP. Let usknow how this turns out as I'm still on the fence for the Sour Mystery box...

    Two things to be considered:
    1) You added up the retail prices but never counted any sales tax that would have been charged in a store
    2) This company needs to make a small amount of profit on these mystery boxes
