It does say KDS along the bottom, under Dark Star.

And then the text along the left side of the label calls it "2013 Limited Release Bourbon Barrel Kentucky Dark Star Oatmeal Stout" and then says "Kentucky Dark Star is an Imperial Oatmeal Stout aged in 15-year old Kentucky Bourbon Barrels..." yada yada yada

So I take it that it just can't contain Kentucky in its name.

I wish there were some kegs. I was kinda hoping to have a glass on Sunday at the brewery after running a half marathon.

Oh they kegged a little bit. But most went in to bottles, probably about double last years batch.

Just hoping the extra ABV increases the longevity - 2012 was strong out of the gate but diminished rather quickly IMO

Just have a 22 oz glass. About 1.5 oz per mile run: a recovery beverage far superior to chocolate milk. I mean - Oatmeal!

Says the guy who typed Kook Aid. Twice.
Oh yes, that's right. Alcohol enhances my memory for useless information.

Kook Aid was, arguably, an improvement.

I asked and I think it was around 140 cases or something like that.

If they still have the Dark Star with orange and cocoa nibs, I liked it better than the actual KDS. That stuff was amazing.

Sounds like a coin flip. I would guess they sold 20-40 cases today.

I split one last night (couldn't wait). I enjoyed it immensely—more than I remember enjoying the first batch. Like, not Parabola, but like Parabola. I'll be grabbing another bottle or two, for sure; it's got a little heat (that I liked) that will probably mellow a bit. Must be that phantom 1.5% ABV increase.

Maybe I'm biased, I did get to go wax a few bottles yesterday.

As I was walking away from the brewery yesterday afternoon with two bottles of KDS in one hand and my daughter's hand in the other, one of the Fremont employees taking a break in the UBG saw what I'd just purchased and shouted over that row of barrels with a big smile, "So good, so good!" Your description of how proud and excited the crew seemed aligns with that experience, which kind of caught me by surprise at the time. I'll be picking up a couple more bottles before they're all gone. And I won't be sending any of these back East.

I think I'll stop by after work for one more bottle. Just one.

Really, only one more. I don't have a problem.

    Seriously.
