The problem I have is that hunting down beer to add to a collection that I can never finish drinking IS my fix for past obsessions like buying too many bottles of wine and too many cigars. The thrill of the hunt I guess. There could be worse vices to spend money on.

I have maybe 50 bottles and I feel overwhelmed. Every now and then even at a loss I condense bombers to 12 oz bottles. At least I can drink them. I want to drink my beer not over collect.

I got around 400. You don't have a problem till you hit 1000 in IMO.

This thread has made me realize how lucky I am that all the beers I want are not always available to me. I would quickly become poor, drunk, and failing out of grad school.

The good thing about beer is that it's a pretty standard product between batches, and if there are any differences they are immaterial. Most beers are easy to find unless you like the taste of rarity, and there are usually very adequate substitutes within any given style. I don't fall for the hype surrounding "limited edition brews" and things of that nature - not when there are so many classics around that are perfect in themselves. So, I just buy as I need (except for some Cantillons, where I sometimes get a little greedy).

I'm putting my two cents in now, but yes I am certainly in this group. About a month ago I went to my basement and discovered a bottle of Dreadnaught and thought (shit this won't age well I better crack it open now), which is a perfect example of buying shit that you can't possibly drink.

Every Thursday the local Binny's (huge chain liquor store in Chicago for those "foreigners") gets their delivery. So I always go before work, problem is I work two jobs and put in a 16 hour day so there's no way I'll get to drink what I buy. Some of it is for aging, some gets cracked open on my next day off, maybe I'll bring a bottle to work (I work at a bar), but I find often that I'm filling boxes and crates of beer that I should probably start dating, and sometimes I literally forget what I even bought. This happened with a Bruery White Oak and a Pipeworks Closer Encounter.

It doesn't help that I think about stopping at random liquor stores fairly regularly to buy even more. It's an expensive obsession, hence why I work 70 hours a week.

I typically don't have more than a few on hand at any given time, but I live in Utah and have a low income/ am a student so there isn't much reason to purchase many at a time. In the meantime, I am going to Portland this weekend for a week and plan on spending a few hundred dollars on beer. So when given the opportunity, my addiction is apparent.

I say it's not hoarding if you can see floor, but my basement is pretty close to stocked up for the end times.
The one behavior change I've noticed is not to nab "drink it fresh" beers I won't get around to drinking for weeks or longer . Just because I'm in Munster and Zombie Dust is available does not mean I need a case. I probably do NEED a six pack.
I had a damn health issue, mold in the lungs, that kept me from drinking for a few months. During that time I bought a crate of Westy 12 from Belgiuminbox.
No beer and the funky diet brought a welcome weight loss, and I seem to be on track to lift all restrictions by Thanksgiving.
A good friend store owner just told me I have a case of Expedition, a 12 of Third Coast Ole Ale and six bottles of BBQ waiting. Quads, barleywines and high gravity stouts, they ought to keep.

Yes I am a binge buyer. Just when I think I have it under control, I read about some new beers and then have to buy them. If I can't find something locally, then it's time for another online order(shipping costs be damned). There isn't a weekend that goes by when I don't stop in one of the area beer stores and check for something I haven't tried. The basement fridge is full and I've had to invade the upstairs one. Maybe I can get it under control soon...oh, there goes another new beer on Untappd I haven't tried. Maybe tomorrow.

Buying the beer is as much fun as drinking it. All those artistic, pretty labels and the luscious liquids within. I love having the best beer available to share with my friends.

Someone needs to cash in on this and start a beer hoarding show. Obviously with the profits going towards beer.

I'm definitely in that boat. My wife gets pissed at the amount of beer I buy. I could spend hours in a beer store just looking around reading labels. I definitely buy more than I can consume. To me there's something about buying a beer you've never tried before and having it just to say you have it (as well as to drink).

Yes I buy wayyyy more than I am able to drink and I even have a hard time getting friends to come over and drink it with me. I think I get more of a thrill from the hunt than I do from consuming the kill. I probably drink under 100 oz of beer in a week, yet I probably buy well over 200 oz a week.

Yeah, while I LOVE drinking good beer, based on the growth rate of my cellar inventory I definitely am more addicted to buying beer!

I have well over a hundred bottles on hand, but it's almost all homebrew and a lot of it is still bottle conditioning/aging. I have only three large bottles of commercial beers I haven't drank yet.

I have way too much beer. I drink the IPAs quickly but I have about 50 bombers and 75 bottles of stouts waiting for me. I tell myself I'll drink it down this winter but it hard when I like to buy more beer weekly. My goal is to just buy some Darkness & BCS until xmas. I don't think I'll make it to Columbus Day!
