The Prickly Pear is made with prickly pear cactus fruit I believe. The surprise highlight of last year's Great Taste of the Midwest.

Does anyone have photos of the description posters of the Imperial Schwartz and Finlaggin that they had at the tabel where they were sold? I forgot to snap a pic and would like to give them a read.

I don't know if it's the same or not but there is a description on each bottle. Can send you a pic of each if you want.

I think there was a bit more description/info on those signs they had posted. As you know, I hopped in line after we parted ways and grabbed a couple bottles of each, so I'll have to check out my bottles and see. If nobody has a picture of the signs, no big deal - I just figured I'd check

I took pictures for keeping the RB database accurate and added all the proper descriptions.. though several of the beers were available previously..

Did anyone else think the Schwartzbier was waaaaaaaaaaaay better than the Scotch ale? I wasn't able to make the party, but a buddy of mine picked up a couple bottles for me and opened one of them Friday night at the Hampton. I thought the scotch ale was kinda disappointing, but I actually really liked the Schwartzbier.

It was just a surprise to me because I've been really digging -bal scotch ales lately and was expecting it to be the other way around.

Was the common consensus of the event. Schwartz was the winner.. which was just surprising to many people..

Best beer of the day was the Pullman Reserve / BA Imp Schwartz blend being served inside the brewpub.

The scotch was way too hot for my liking and surprising too at only 7.5%

I thought the Prickly Pear was awful. If it's the same batch with good reviews from before, it's just evolved in a bad way.

I'll throw my hat in the ring for Schwartz was better than Scotch too.

Prickly Pear had spent almost 3 years in barrels when it was released last year.. it was quite good then but it was getting towards the heavy handed end of sourness.

And this year it had another year of age on it (Same Batch - Same Matt Van Wyk sour).

Prickly Pear was totally AWESOME (if you like very sour beer), so happy I got to try it. Driving to the party was worth it for that, BA Hi-Fi, or BA Wooden Horse alone. I thought both the schwartz and scotch were way hot, didn't care for their flavor and didn't pick up any bottles. The brett'd imperial pils was one of the worst beers I've ever had, tasted like a beer version of soured milk.
