Its not necessarily the state that drinks the most beer or the state the produces the most beer or the state that produces the best beer or the state with the most breweries. Its the state where "beer" is the first thing that comes to mind to many whenever that state is mentioned.

When someone says "that state" more people will think about "beer" than if any other state was mentioned. When someone says "beer" more people will think about "that state" than any other state. Its the state where beer is a symbol of its identity. What is "the beer state"?

There are none with those parameters. When you refer to "many" and "most people" I assume you are referring to the general populace.

I think of Oregon or Colorado. Colorado's current governor co-founded the state's first brewpub, and both Oregon and Colorado are some of the top states in breweries per capita.

I don't think the average person is going to think beer first if any of our 50 states are mentioned.

Colorado comes to mind. I might think that only because I have heard casuals/bmc drinkers talk about Coors, New Belgium, and the GABF more so than other stuff.

After living across the sound from Seattle for nearly five years, I immediately think Washington. California comes in a close second, though.

Wisconsin makes me think of fat people, bratwurst, and cheese.

Colorado makes me think of weed and skiing.

No state make me think of beer first.

Vermont has more breweries per capita in the USofA. So maybe them, but I have never even met anybody from Vermont so I don't really think of the state to often.
