This. I can see my local kicking out a beer for it.

Absolutely. It's the very mediocre beer that all non BA types think is amazing for some reason.

Yeah thats my worry as well. If I'm at a place with a crap selection I'd much rather have a Sam seasonal, something from Harpoon, etc instead of a Yuengling which may replace one of those.

I don't think so. When Goose Island came to MA there was alot of trepidation that there would be Honkers Ale taps kicking out locals at a bunch of places, and that never materialized. I think Yuengling Lager is more likely to displace PBR or 'Gansett Lager taps if anything.

I like the thought of being able to pick up a case/suitcase of Y-L cans at my convenience (at a good price point too).

Hopefully places think of things like gansett and Yuengling as substitutes. My worry is that Yuengling will take up one of the remaining handles next to the (relatively) craptacular prepackaged Sam-Sam Seasonal-Guinness-Stella lineup.

Basically, with gansett around (including in 30pk cans), I see little need for another mild-mannered, adjunct-fortified cheap-ish beer around. And I'll say the same to the Texans clamoring for Shiner Bock.

I have an emotional soft spot for Y-L from my college pregaming days, and quite frankly I dislike it now, but it'll make a lot of people happy I'm sure. I live 20 mins from the NY border, so I could get it whenever I wanted anyways. I'm more apt to grab a porter, blank & tan, or maybe a Chesterfield with it back in town though.

If Koch is really "Out in the hop fields of Bavaria sourcing hops for our beers", then that is one of the most awesome out of office replies I've ever heard. My gut tells me that its just some jargon she slings to tell reporters to get lost. Actually, my gut is telling me its time to leave work and have a beer.

And people are creaking out on Facebook now because its coming to Mass. It's funny how lack of availability makes people think its so good when there areca dozen similar options already available.

TETO - I really don't see the need for more "elite" high-end brands dumping their overpriced beer in this market. At least Yuengling will move.

I think Yuengling coming back to New England is a fairly big deal for some people. I know I normally have some around house cause its a cheap everybody drinking beer. I think part of the myth behind it will disperse for a lot of people when they can walk to their neighborhood packy and pick up a sixer. I am all for my competition coming to challenge the the crapt beer category (Bud, Coors and Miller) and I see it stealing some of some from PBR and 'Gansett, but I don't see it impacting much of the craft beer category

Well put. I've always considered Narragansett and Yuengling as regional cousins - not awful, but if it's the best a restaurant/ballpark has, then I'll opt for water.

In NYC it's PBR Jr. with the hipsters/DUMBO types. I don't really understand or like any of the people or beers involved.

As a retailer, the two most common questions I get are "do you have heady topper" and "can you get yuengling". So I'm excited to be able to take care of one of those soon

It seems to be a common situation. Just trading one regional AAL for a previously unavailabe one. 'Gansett arrived in Philly, displacing PBR, now Shiner is showing up.

BTW, thank you Mass., you can have ALL of the Yuengling.

You go to a ballgame at Fenway Park and get a water instead of a 'Gansett Lager draft and a hot dog? Blasphemy!
