    Howdy,

I am travelling to Durham and Charleston over the last week of October and wanted to ask for beer recommendations/advice. What are some NC&SC beers that I should bring back to Colorado with me? From what I've read and heard (talked to a couple of NC brewers at GABF), I should go to Sam's in Durham as far as bottle shops are concerned. Any bottle shops in Charleston worth checking out? Just not familiar what local/regional beers I should seek out. Thanks in advance.

Sam's is fantastic. It is also right next to the bridge that eats trucks. Serious.

Charleston Beer Exchange is your huckleberry.

I echo Floski above on Sams. Definitely a must stop bottle shop. Great food close to there on Erwin Road and 9th street. You can ask the guys there at Sams and they'll be happy to help you. And you can purchase a brew while you shop............and you get to keep the glass.

If you give me a heads up, I may be able to join you. I can get you in with some local breweries. Also, I'll show you around SAMs.

I second the bottle shop recs.

As for local beer: Westbrook, COAST, and Olde Hickory are three to check out for sure. Westbrook and COAST are also easy to visit if you're in Charleston.

In Charleston, don't miss Charleston Beer Exchange. Total Wine in West Ashley is decent as well. Definitely hit up COAST, Westbrook, Holy City, and Frothy Beard. If you want to go to a good beer bar, go to Homegrown Brewhouse in Summerville. They have 40 beers on tap, of those, around 30 are local. Plus they serve everything in proper glasses.

    Awwww thanks.

but it really helps that I work at Total Wine now, Ive gotten to know the reps, which is a scary thought for me. I havent been out to the breweries as much since I moved in with the girl, but its positive. Ive been pushing the local stuff, trying to get Fullsteam growlers here at Total Wine (buzzing Sean), and like always reserving as much GL Christmas Ale as possible. (ps im typing this at work).

So Sams is by far the best bottle shop (in terms of selection) that a visitor should go to if just in town looking to score beer. I actually work a block away from there now so i could help you out too if you wanted. (btw @VncentLIFE im sure ive seen you around, i dont go to TW often because frankly there isnt much need to with all the terrific bottle shops but since my buddy Kevin works there i stop in occasionally)
