Depends on what you mean by "great."

If "great" equals a top 100 beer that has stood the test of time and doesn't capitalize on rarity or faddish popularity....then yes, there are four such beers on this list.

It's been all downhill since they turned into a malterative brewery

Punkin is my favorite pumpkin beer by a wide margin, and I really enjoy 60 and 90 minute. That being said, I haven't had one of their "big bottle" beers that I've ever wanted to try a second time. I guess 75 minute was good. I sense a pattern with me here, lol.

I haven't sampled many of their brews, but I love their 60 Minute IPA and their 90 Minute IPA is one of my favorites of any style.

I would agree with the pumpkin ale. I did not taste last years, but this years just fell flat for me. DFH does do a great job with their 60 and 90 IPA. It has been at least a year since I have had the 75 minute IPA and never had the 61 IPA. The 120 is over the top, and IMO needs to be drank cold. Letting this one warm up really brings out the alcohol flavors.

I like their 220 minute, 221 minute, whatever it takes.

How old was the 60 Minute you tried that it could be described as a "malty mess"? When fresh, this has an exceptional fresh and bright hop profile. 90 Minute is a rare DIPA that maintains something close balance between malt and hops.

The more experimental beers are going to be hit and miss with individual palates.

I've never had anything "great" from DFH but their ability to crank out consistently decent brews should be noted. They are really the Stone of the East Coast in terms of volume and collaboration mania/experimental ingredients galore.

Palo Santo is absolutely a world class beer.

I'd say 60 and 90 Minute IPA are probably the biggest gateway IPAs going and are solid beers, even if they're not for me.

World Wide Stout, Squall (RIP) My Antonia, Positive Contact, India Brown, Raisons D'etre and D'extre, and Punkin are all quite good. I've been a DFH detractor for a while now for spending 15 bucks on beers that I felt were just not good (like Hellhound), but there's no doubting, they make some damn good beers.

It's all subjective, at least if you're going to define a great beer as the opposite of, as you put it, "something that even comes close to making my top 50 list." With all the beers out there, I imagine it would be tough for any beer to make a beer lover's Top 50 list. I like DFH. I think they make really solid beers. I'm not head-over-heels for any of the ones I've had, and there are a few I don't particularly care for. But that's my opinion, based on my palate, which btw, Previous Poster with the "You've only been on this site since June" comment, I've been developing long before I joined this website in...I think it was July.

Punk'n is a classic style example heavy in nutmeg and cinnamon. I can show you two-hundred similar examples and dozens that are better. You're wrong.

I'm not the hugest fan of DFH though I do enjoy some of their beers, maybe just not as much as some other folks on this site. My personal favorite is the Miles David Bitches Brew.

I think I had a much higher opinion of DFH (and Victory is another example) about 10-15 years ago when they were pushing the envelope of what was available in craft beer but I feel like they have stopped evolving the styles that are most popular and gone for the unusual/weird or kitschy now... Also, I am confused as to why they have to jack up the alcohol levels in all of the beers they produce, especially those only available in bombers (it makes them tough to enjoy for people that are not surrounded by craft beer enthusiasts at all times). I understand they have built a powerful brand with the 60/90 minute IPAs and they pushed the envelope when they were introduced, unfortunately now the rest of the industry has taken the example and evolved it further (and in a way I enjoy).

Ancient ale recreations is an interesting idea but unfortunately I have not really enjoyed any of these and there is probably a reason they are no longer in existence as people's palates have changed and there is enjoyment of different kinds of flavors.

I have a lot of respect for Sam and DFH, certainly around what they did to popularize craft beer though I just am no longer the hugest fan of their beers.
