I second this. OP, which pumpkins do you like?

I think a lot of breweries take the same risks. They just don't have the chutzpah to try to sell them. :stuck_out_tongue:

The OP of this thread is talking poppycock.

DFH is not great, DFH IS ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND!

    Cheers to DFH!

Odd logic. That's like saying, "I wish Funkwerks made something that didn't use Belgian yeast."
DFH don't make a "normal" beer because they don't make normal beers.

I think DFH has made quite a few gold standards actually... Their minute IPAs all have something awesome to offer and a fresh 60 minute is probably one of the most underrated American IPAs in the history of human civilization... Their WWS and my Antonia i cant get enough of either

"Off Center Ales". Not "squarely to style "

I honestly think even non-craft drinkers know dogfish by that slogan.

    Good Point J!

Yes, all of these are f-ing fantastic. Along with Noble Rot and Red & White. And Punkin Ale is one of the few pumpkin beers I can stand -- it's actually quite delicious. So yea, they make a ton of great beers.

When I pick up a new DFH brew to try, it usually follows this script:
    Read bottle.
Think, "Wow, this is gonna be fucking weird."
Pour a glass and take a drink.
Think, "Hmm. This doesn't taste that weird. In fact, it just tastes like a well-crafted beer."

Does this happen to anybody else?

Personally, I think Palo Santo, Olde School, WWS, Bitches Brew, Indian Brown, Raison d'Extra, Ta Henket, and Urkontinent are great.

Burton Baton is certainly my favorite. I consider DFH to be the most pretentious brewery out there. My only gripe is that all of their beer is insanely priced, which deters me from trying more of their brews.

    Malty mess?

I wish more brewers would learn from 60 and 90 minute and up the malt backbone in their IPAs.

I love 90 minute but a lot of other malty IPAs out there are not great (Maharaja, Unearthly)

I don't know if this is the ultimate troll thread, or the dumbest thread I have ever read.

Dogfish Head continuously pushes out phenomenal beer, time after time. While some turn out flops, so many of there beers go on to win awards and high praise that this thread makes me want to punch a baby.

Haven't had a ton of their stuff but I love 90 minute, PSM, Olde School, and Bitches Brew, and I like 60 minute, Chicory Stout, Indian Brown, and others. I do wish they'd go back to their roots and brew "off centered" ales instead of "we're insane and brewing on the moon with dinosaur bones" beers.

I want to say no! But I just can't.. I think DFH have always been a bit over rated. But the fact is they really aren't. Just because a lot of their stuff isn't on par with my preferred style doesn't mean its not for a lot of other people. I've had a lot of their stuff and honestly the 120 minute was the only one I couldn't finish. It was just too much. No balance and caked full of alcohol. Palo Santo is a very good brown ale, but only 1 in 10 have the palate to handle it. I enjoy it at least once a year. Indian Brown Ale is as good of an American brown ale you'll ever find. To me its probably their 2nd best beer in terms of quality. 75 minute IPA is freaking ridiculously good. It has FFF style and texture with its thickness. That's the reason I like FfF. 75 minute has that it factor about it for me. 75 is one of my favorite beers from any brewer in any country. It's that good! 60 and 90 minute are 2 that are well crafted as well. They aren't as good as 75, but still very good quality brews. Their punkin is another I really enjoy. The perfectly balanced punkin ale. While a lot of their stuff just isn't my style there are plenty more suited for different folks. But 75 minute, Indian Brown, Palo Santo, and punkin are ones i will always grab. 60 and 90 are 2 ill buy a few bottles every year. That's enough beers from them for me to consider them world class

To a certain extent, I share the OP's opinion, but each of our individual opinions is kinda worthless.
Jason has the answer...wisdom of the group says they make some pretty damn good beers.

Their brews can be polarizing, but their standard offerings I always have enjoyed for years, even the odd pub only crazy brews can be a real blast.

75 minute and Indian Brown are out of this world. PSM, 60, 90 min are real good, and punkin is excellent in the fall. Chicory stout is another of my faves from them I forgot to mention. Same with Festina. All these I've found as very solid brews with a few being as good as anything I've ever had in their respected style. I had 61 recently and it was the perfect example of just not my style, but still refreshing. Plus a lot of my friends who drink wine fell in love with 61. DFH is a unique brewery and a one of a kind. I feel fortunate we have a brewery as odd ball as they are in the craft world!
