WOW! At those prices, it looks like I am going to have to taste them vicariously through your guys’ reviews!

I had Gillian at the Block party this year and I found it to have a very nice tart and sourness, I would totally seek out multiple bottles if they werent $30 :slight_frown: cant speak for Halia

And it's a shame nobody will be buying any.

I'm okay with that. I'll buy it all.......eventually, once I scrape together enough paychecks to afford it.

I dont know why you guys are complaining about prices of Gillian at 28 bucks but are fine with Uplands 25 bucks (and assumed extra 10 bucks for travel and/or shipping costs for us FIB's). I assume similar amount of time and ingredients (Upland may have more fruit though). The three dollar difference you can apply to those extra 15 mL's, because those extra 15mL's make all the difference.

Binny's should start a layaway program. With just 3 monthly payments of $36, I should have all 4 Sisters in time for X-mas.

This. Does the cork and cage make the pricing acceptable?

Also, this is low mid-range for wine, a segment GI seems to want to break into.

Edit: Then again, one of the best US sours was widely available for $10/4-pack, so who knows.

Gillian has never really been a "Sour". This batch may say differently.. but I've never had that beer and said "Yep, American Sour right there.".

Upland Lambics actually cater to the sour crowd considerably more.

Though I'd agree with you on Upland lambics creeping towards that same dicey price area I mentioned earlier..

Because .rar. To beer nerds like us it's easier to justify $25 for an Upland bottle when you can only buy 1 and only if you win a lottery, and only a few hundred bottles are available.

It makes it harder when a beer is readily available on a shelf. You take away some of the .rar, you take away some trade value, mystique, etc.

You know a BA's justification for value has nothing to do with the ingredients or even taste.... It's all about perceived rarity.:grinning::wink::grinning:

The extra cork and cage costs are equivalent to buying a sh*t ton of rarish 765 bottles. Considering I dont know any other brewery using them, I'm betting they paid through the nose for the glass.

Off Topic but what is the 10/4-pack beer you speak of?

I guess yes, it isn't a "sour" but fruit addition(s) sitting in barrels using a farmhouse yeast is a similar production. Its probably heresy to say it in here, but the couple Upland fruit lambics I've had I thought were closer to Lindemanns then Cantillon. I'm off topic, i'll stop.

I was talking more about perception, but, yeah, those bottles probably don't come cheap.

    Missed that in my response.

Yes, New Glarus's Wild Sour is amazing. If you believe the story on the label, it's apparently all wild yeast - not lab-grown lacto- or brett like a lot of other sours.

    I regret not buying more...

I'm scared to see what BCBS will cost this year...

Is anyone familiar with retail pricing for RR sours?

the consecration i just bought was $12.

but its important to note that GI and RR have different formats, not apples to apples. ill do the math..

oh wait, thats just half the size of GI (if GI is 750), so a comparable RR would be $24

I got some Halia and Gilian at Binnys; total was about ~$58 after tax. I cant speak on Gilian, but Halia is drinking like an amazing beer. The way everything blends is truly delicious.

Are these showing up just in Chicago, or are they seeing distribution yet? I need to know if I need to go hunting.
