I'd have to do them side by side to be able to tell which I enjoyed more, but I can definitely agree it tasted fantastic out of the can. Plus, it's a couple bucks cheaper. It's nice because Sculpin's a beer that should be closer to the 10$ range. All Day IPA switched to cans and a 12 pack's only 15 bucks now. If I wanted two 6-packs of bottles I'd be paying over 20 bucks.

I enjoy collecting different bottles, though, which is the only downside. Cans definitely do not look as neat on the shelf as bottles do. Regardless, I buy beer to drink it. I'm all for cans. They're cheaper, easier to transport, and taste just as good as a bottle does.

I love bottled beer, but I do see the sense in cans. They do protect the quality of the beer and our planet. I live in China, our planet needs help. Getting back to the point here, it wouldn't be as much fun for all of us beer geeks out there who love collecting bottled barleywines and imperial stouts if the beer's canned. There's something gratifying about going into my dark cellar and popping open a smooth black ale that has been aging for a few years. A can doesn't offer the same experience. On the other hand, I've poured some fresh and creamy brews out of cans. It's a tough choice.

yea i guess it depends on the beer when it comes to presentation...ipas and pilseners and etc dont really matter to me if they come from either but those aged beers do look pretty fantastic coming from a bottle and corked

Cans are great and I would like to see more of them in the future. Mission brewing from San Diego is going to be putting out 32 oz. cans sometime soon.

I just had Ballast Point Sculpin cans last night and they were amazing. I love Sculpin any way I can get it, but it just tasted fresher from the can. Thoughts? Should all breweries be canning their beers now? I vote yes.

Canning is the way to go in my opinion.

Their must be something to canning. Snake River in WY went to all canning. As a side note....I was/am in favour of it!

Agreed. Easier to ship, store and recycle. It's a no brainer!

There is a lot less oxidation, so hop flavors remain stable longer. Plus easy to recycle. Although beers that age well age slower in cans, so maybe I'd prefer my RIS' and barleywines in a bottle?

I think this topic has been more than sufficiently covered in the past.

Sculpin in a can is so much better. I could find it easily back in San Diego, but have only seen it in bottles in New York.

Oskar Blues Ten Fiddy. It ages VERY gracefully in the can. I know from experience as others do.

Cans are indeed superior packaging for beer:

    · Zero light ingress
    · Zero oxygen ingress
    · Lighter
    · Take up less space (more cases per pallet for shiping)
    · More easily recycled

The issues for craft breweries are twofold:

    · Most already have a bottling line and needless to say it costs money to install an additional packaging line
    · There are still some beer consumers who are prejudiced to craft beer in a can; cans are viewed as being packages for Macroswill

    Cheers!

cans are great because they fit better in your cupholders so you dont have to hold your beer during turns.

Ever had a beer on tap? You've been drinking craft from cans since you started drinking.

I, like most others, welcome our new take-home metallic overlords. They cool faster, take up less space in the fridge, and when someone drops one on me from a balcony at a concert (like they did last night), I don't have to pick broken glass out of my road case.

Side note: I embarked on a brewery tour last week, and at one point the guide addressed their new canning line. "Now, some people have complained that canned beer has a metallic taste. Let me offer some advice to them: pour the beer into a glass and stop making out with the can." Well put.

This is a recurring topic on this site, discussed almost ad nauseam. You will find a wide variety of opinions searching through previous topics.

Cans are excellent containers for several reasons. I find myself in the contents over container corner. Give me good beer, container is a secondary concern.
