Boon is good and fairly easy to get.

One of my favorites is Consecration but it's become extremely difficult to get as of late. I've only seen it once on the shelf all year (with 1 bottle limits).

Sadly, the Canadian dollar is basically on par with ours these days. And not that long ago, was worth more.

I meant American beers. And while Boon is good, it's nowhere near Cantillon. 3F is the closest replacement, and it's still not as easy to find as it was last year, and prices still aren't on par with what they are in Europe.

russian river makes great sours, ive heard great things about allagash but haven't tried their sours. Boon was mentioned before and makes great stuff, liefmans cuvee renee is solid, so is their foudrayante geuze.

Can't say I agree with that, but different strokes for different folks, obviously.

I'd have to say you are right. Boon has always been nothing more than a funk bomb, with such little acidity or sourness that it was borderline unpleasant. The 2004 Mariage Parfait I had at my reception was blue cheese beer, or at least what I'd expect blue cheese beer to taste like. It was still good, underneath that funk, but nowhere near Classic. Just saying.

Again, not an American with a comparable price to Cantillon in Europe.

Not very hard to trade limited release stuff for Cantillon and to order it from Europe and put it on your shelf/website. The beers they sell and post did not come from their distributor, thats for sure.

To get Cantillon (legally) in California you have to buy a ton of Shelton Bros beers consistently for a long time. Then, and only then, will their distributor sell you the beer. It's very very hard.

Drie Fonteinen has been more plentiful than ever since Shelton returned to Indiana. Cantillon is still meager rations. Girardin Black is almost non-existent (my store only got two cases in 2012) :slight_frown:

In a way, I agree with you. But a lot of the time this isn't the case. Store by me just sold 6+ of Goose Island Halia and Gillian for $30 a piece in less than 12 hours. I'm willing to bet if any Cantillon showed up here, it would fly off the shelves.

Other things that cause "lingering" product issues could be the distributor not targeting products wisely, the retailer letting beers age and not "selling" well on-site, poor demographics, or for relatively expensive beers, a varying economy, hence less demand. "Finds versus Turds", tomorrow on Fox 2:30 AM, or is that tonight? Cheers all.

I can see that. However, does the difficulty to obtain those beers from the distributor manifest as exorbitant retail pricing? I didn't see the price being charged but I assume from the responses early on in the thread that they were quite high if they surpass the prices charged by both etre and belgium in a box (including shipping). Obviously stores can charge these prices because there's no shortage of folks who don't give a shit and will buy regardless of the price, but there are those of us who will take our business to stores that aren't so unscrupulous.

RR sours are nothing like Gueuze. They are great beers to be sure, but in no way are they a substitute for a high-quality Belgian lambic.
