My wife and I will be visiting the Silicon Valley area and we'd like some recommendations on brewpubs there that make exceptional IPAs. We'll be making a pilgrimage up north to Lagunitas and Russian River. Lagunitas Sucks and Pliny are among our favorite IPAs, so we're looking for other IPAs along those lines. Great food to go along with the beer is a plus. Thanks!

There are no brewpubs in the Silicon Valley besides Tied House and Gordon Biersch and a couple others.

Yeah, just make the trip to Lagunitas and RR and call it a day. Some good beer bars in SV (Good Karma and Original Gravity across the street from each other), but no good brewpubs per se. (Especially "along the lines of Pliny/Sucks.")

I'm confused, I thought SF and the southern East Bay were part of Silicon Valley, not just the lower peninsula. Anyways, the best bet for the OP is to go to Sante for beer and then Aptos St BBQ for food and more beer!

Wikipedia says it's basically from just north of 237 to the north to Gilroy at the south end.

Yeah, if the OP's got a few days. Aptos to Santa Rosa is a bit of a haul, though, especially after a few beers.

I'd second the recommendation for beer bars down here, not specifically brewpubs. Lots of places in downtown San Jose serve up some good beers (OG, Good Karma, etc) and if you're around on a Thursday night see what tap takeover Harry's Hofbrau in Saratoga is running - they can get some goodies there.

As others have said, there are basically no good brewpubs in Silicon Valley. There are a number of good beer bars, though. Original Gravity and Harry's Hofbrau in San Jose are my two faves. In Mountain View, Steak Out has a decent selection of mostly German beers + yummy burgers, and Steins Beer Garden has OK gastropub food and a nice beer selection.

Original Gravity posts their beer menu online and keeps it up to date: http://www.originalgravitypub.com/

Campbell Brewing ("at Sonoma Chicken Coop") just won a gold medal at the GABF for their Scottish Ale and has other good beers and decent food for not too much money - especially at happy hour!

I like Los Gatos Brewing, which has a San Jose location as well as one in Los Gatos, but the Los Gatos spot generally has a wider selection of house beer. They keep it simple with German-style lagers (their other, seasonal choices have not impressed me much), so they don't get a lot of love in Northern Cal-Ale-Fornia, but they make good, straightforward beer and have better food than your typical brewpub.

Service can be REALLY spotty, I recommend sitting at the bar if you are eating.

Oh, I forgot. Rabbit's Foot Meadery is a great pick if you like mead and cider and cyser and braggot and... those other things.

I know OP mentioned BrewPub, but Steins in downtown Mountain View is good for food and beer selection as well as Harry's Hofbrau in San Jose. You could always try Yardhouse at Santana Row if you want food, beer, and atmosphere.

I guess you be visiting San Jose, Santa Clara -
Naglee park Garage offers Great burger and good brew in San Jose at :
Campbell - Rock bottom has good Cask conk brews

Consider trying some organic brews as :
Santa Cruz brewing Company in SC, Thirsty Bear in SF

    Hope this helps.

I'd also recommend Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, good German and American craft taps and great German food. Nothing beats a liter mug and a huge fresh pretzel with salami and cheese.

If you end up passing through San Francisco, I'd suggest Mikkeller bar and Cellarmaker Brew Co.
