This. DirtWolf is phenomenal. With DirtWolf and Flying Dog The Truth as year-round beers at awesome price points, I may just stop hunting down limited IPAs all together.

I'm pretty much at the same point. Just recently had the latest enjoy by next to dirtwolf and it really wasn't even close for me how much better dirtwolf was. At the same time the 11.12.13 also didn't seem as good as the 9.13.13. I originally thought that the two were similar based off of my 9.13 notes but they really aren't similar and dirtwolf seems more like heady's little brother.

This is absolutely true. Peekskill makes the best hoppy beers in NY state, hands down.

Don't know where in New York you are, but it shouldn't be too difficult to come across Heady in a bar in NYC. You'll have to pay through the nose, but it can be found.

Freshness is the key. You have access to many excellent IIPAs. Get them when they are fresh.

You may be on to something. I've only been doing this craft beer thing for about a year and have had most of the "limited/best" IPA's out there. I enjoyed the fact I was able to try them and enjoy them, but there has to come a time where you find an year round release (available locally) and call it quits.

Sound like DirtWolf is worth a try.

I once saw Heady at Randolph Beer downtown. $11 a can.

Not sure how wide-spread, but it has definitely hit b/c I ordered it from a menu at a bar in Brooklyn on Saturday night. I was quite surprised to see it offered.

"...call it quits." Right. Like that just happens when we decide it should.

At the same time, I could totally get behind having Fresh Drakes 1500 and Fresh Dirtwolf in the fridge at all times with the occasional heavy weight coming out of the cellar! Less trading, truck-chasing, news scouring... sounds pretty good!

I saw several pics on Instagram of some shops and my friend who works for a distributor take pics of cases upon cases of it

Funny how different opinions can range, as my brother and I had the exact opposite reaction: thought Dirtwolf was good, but easily preferred Enjoy By 11.12.13 (not to mention thinking this latest batch was much better than the 9.13.13 one). Just another fine example on why it's important to never lose sight of how subjective this hobby is.

And let's face it: while you or I might prefer one over the other, either way it's freakin' awesome to have so many great options currently available to us.

Different strokes, different folks. I have 1 more enjoy by that I'll try closer to the end date to see if opinion differs. Newest just seemed more oniony and not very complex on flavors. My other friend didn't care for the dirtwolf and loved the enjoy by. depends on what flavors you're looking for and personal taste preferences. some people love sours, others think they are disgusting. In the end, it's beer and meant to be enjoyed (preferably with others) and drink what you like. My wallet greatly will appreciate the fact that I enjoy dirtwolf over enjoy by as they are the same price point around here but I get over twice the beer! :-)

I have to suggest Dirt Wolf as well, tried it next to Enjoy By this weekend and it's a great beer for half the price.

I good IPA, no doubt, but I don't see any resemblance to Enjoy By. I agree OP should try it, but not with EB in mind...

I just made the drive from Jersey to pick up some Heady - it was definitely worth it.

I also made the drive to pick up some Hill Farmstead Double Citra - very good, even great, but not worth the drive because you can only get three 750ml growlers filled per day, and their growler fill system is amateur hour. The lines take forever, and the growlers are filled top down, rather than bottom filled, so i don't think they will keep well.

I also highly second (third, fourth, fifth...) the Dirtwolf recommendation and I particularly like Lagunitas Hop Stoopid.

Swung by Binny's over lunch to pick up some Dirtwolf, since I've heard great things about it. I now know to not rely on their online inventory system. Schaumburg still shows Dirtwolf as "Available," even though they sold out yesterday. Guess I will call ahead next time.

If you can still get that, its worth a try. I mean thats only a few dollars more then enjoy by and theyre both 16oz I think. $11 to try one of the best beers around is a small price imo.

Also as others have said, look around for jai alai. We got it on LI a few days ago so it should be in the city soon if it isnt already. I actually drank my first one before and after my first heady and it was blown away by it. Not nearly as good, but still a awesome ipa.
