Know where you are. If you're barbecuing or tailgating, get some good cans, right off the top of my head Oskar Blues is always serviceable and for fellow central New Yorkers Butternuts is usually available. And maybe no one else there wants to hear about the hop and malt balance, let hem drink there coors light. If you're in a towny dive bar, see what everyone is drinking, drink that. It might be PBR, but it might be something local you've never heard of.

Well, you can't say I didn't try to flush out the secret. Even an attempt at reverse psychology failed.

Is "reverse psychology" a fancy way of saying "trolling"? The PNW has so many great unknown beers, to list them here would cause BA to crash again. Wouldn't want that to happen now would we? You'll just have to come out and see for yourself.

Every once in a while, take 2 weeks off from beer. When you start again, drink something that started you on craft beer. Might be a lager or an SNPA or something lower in ABV. You will remember how truly great these beers are..

I've seen someone try it before, they were drunk though. So I'd have to say people aren't that stupid, but drunk people are.:stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah but the one stipulation of your previous rule was not to age it if it was an IPA or hoppy beer, so you would be contradicting yourself if you cellared a hoppy Brett beer. Either way, I've had Brett-infused IPAs with nearly a year on them and they've been fine...just not hoppy anymore. I guess it would be a neat experiment to take a Bretty IPA like Prairie 'Merica which I know is fantastic fresh and put it down for a while just to see how drastically the hops have faded. But I pretty much guarantee you it will just be a Brett beer and no longer a Brett IPA and will gain no extra complexity. Sorry to analyze the shit out of your couple of small posts but I'm a huge Brett fan and was just curious as to why you think a Brett beer should automatically be aged. I have found that Brett does not fade over time but I also haven't seen any evidence that it gets any better.

I totally agree. To be clear though what I meant is that if you're drinking the beer for hop character, don't age it. If you love Brett age it and Brett only gets better as it ages because it usually will be the only character left after a decent amount of time. Don't get me wrong, the last couple beers I brewed had Brett and I'm a very big fan.

Ah then what you say makes sense because I had a Mikkeller Invasion Farmhouse IPA once and it was bottled in November of last year but I bought it and cracked it a couple months ago. The Brett was lovely though the hops were pretty much nonexistent. In contrast, the Prairie 'Merica I referred to in my previous post had both a wonderful hop and Brett aroma while the hops were definitely the key player...damnit. Now all you've done is made me wanna go to my good bottle shop where I know there's a 'Merica that's been sitting for a while and grab that shit to see what kind of transformation it's gone through. Haha.
