I agree..the trip up the 14 to the 178 is much more enjoyable than the I-5/99 to the 178. Beautiful south Eastern Sierra scenery and what always seems like less traffic.

I got to do this vs taste test at this year's Firestone Walker Invitational with the added bonus of having my Pliny poured by Vinnie. I then went straight to the KRBC booth and tested it against Citra. Citra was the winner hands down. Both ekgs were as fresh as. I could ever expect to try each and there was definitely a better depth of flavor in the Citra. I do appreciate the fact that PtE is the first DIPA and thus the grandfather standard setter for the style. No one can ever take that away from them.

I did that as well. Only I followed it by getting another 6 pours of Citra

God damn, that beer is delicious.

Rumor has it this batch is very off tasting. Save your time and money. Drink some PBR. You'll never know the difference. Sirius!

No DIPA is worth driving 12 hours for.

It's not just about the beer.

True, the journey can be quite spectacular, especially going to KRBC.

I usually take that route on the way back to L.A. In addition to the beautiful scenic drive , the joshua trees, and small roadside towns , Red Rock canyon is an amazing place for photo ops, hiking or just kicking back, relaxing enjoying growler.

STOP IT! Stop selling me on it! I'm taking that route already, Jeez!

After going through bakersfield for half a dozen times and never even thinking about that alternate route, you people sold me.

Citra is the worst. You should put your winning ticket back in for a re-draw.

Thanks to so many people flaking out, I am a winner!
Thank you guys. From the bottom of my liver.

I was just kidding about the off tastes. Apparently, some people didn't catch onto the sarcasm.

But if we don't compare a beer to Pliny, what will we compare it to? Our own taste and preference?

I also decided to take the 14 to the 178. It's only about an extra 10-15 minute drive from LA.

I'll be at KRBC tomorrow. Anything around the area that I should do during the day/night? Also, if I end up having too much fun over there are there any hotels that I should stay at?

Went today. 14-178 was a much nicer drive. I would advise spending some time at Red Rock National Park. Place is baller.

Citra was flowing. 2 pints per person limit. The one keg they had on got kicked/tapped out around 4ish. They said they have about 3-4 more kegs. Probably last till Sunday and that's all she wrote on that one.

They got Pumpkin, Black Rock, Class X on tap for the seasonals. Don't expect to find any JO or Class V. Only bottles around the town are Isabella Blonde.

Well worth the drive. Stay safe on that mountain road. Saw a flipped car on the way out of there today.
