.01 isn't exactly blowing the margin of error out of the water. To me, when beers get to this elite level, it all comes down to personal preference. Founders, Stone, Fidy, Bear Republic BBBS, Expedition, and Yeti are all fairly close to one another. I think Fidy is a little better than Stone, but not like noticeably better. The only one in that group that really emerges as a clear frontrunner to me is Expedition.

Fidy is like 16 bucks here for the cans and Stone RIS is 7 for a bomber. This puts Stone cheaper than Fidy. I guarantee more people are seeing these prices than the ones you mentioned. I'm sure your geography is partially the reason. I opt for the Stone far more often than Fidy because I like to budget out my beer expense each week and I can also get a sixer of Jai Alai or Racer 5 with the Stone RIS.

i did think about it & like i said, i know Halloween's around the corner but take off the costume & just be yourself. you think Stone is overrated etc., you're not alone & that's your opinion, just own it & quit hiding. hiding where you might ask? you're hiding behind the value theme by baiting & switching. you know damn well you're comparing opposing formats to your advantage. & in case that's too difficult for you to follow, here's a flash card for you - quote the price on Yeti bombers & continue to make your argument. your turn.

I don't know what your fucking problem is, but let's setlle this right now. If I wanted to be a real asshole instead of saying "these blow irs out of the water" I would have said "living in colorado I'm not used to shit rolling UPHILL". The joke may escape you, it's a play on elevation.
And let's go bomber for bomber. 10.50 is out of the equation completely, and I can buy ANY of the yeti variants for the same price as irs, 7.99 a 22oz bomber. I would never, repeat NEVER, buy a stone imperial russian stout when I can buy an espresso oak yeti for the same price. I would gladly pay 11$ for 12oz of uncle jacobs though, but then we're comparing apples to oranges then, aren't we.
Lastly, you can flame on all you want there human torch, but until. This site gets renamed to something along the lines of stoneirsadvocate you can gtfo, especially if you have a problem with someone saying they enjoy beer b more than beer a.

lol. why didn't you just say you enjoy b more than a rather than pussyfooting around some calculated value bullshit? that's all.

North Coast Old Rasputin has my vote for underappreciated, value priced RIS.

If you're griping about 5.99 for a bomber of a very excellent RIS then I think you need to stick to macro brews. You're not going to find a better RIS for that price, period.

i read your entire post that's why i called you out on your last line. you cited higher prices than i've ever seen Stone IRS shelved. other members pointed out the price you quoted is not the average they've seen. you presented a cost analysis to support your "value" claim. other people pointed out your quoted Ten Fidy price was lower than they've ever seen it & IRS is actually cheaper for them using your value analysis process.

you also did your cost analysis utilizing packaging formats you know to be cheaper presentations across brands in general. when i asked you to even the packaging format you quickly tell us what's what ~ which is the cheapest priced/marketed bomber of Yeti is equal in cost (your "value") to what multiple individuals insinuated was the highest priced/marketed (overpriced) bomber of IRS. in the end it seems like you were looking to spout about your local favorites more so than to prove anything about the "value" of IRS. when you went on about Uncle Jacobs you kinda sealed the deal as far as your POV coming across with local bias.

p.s. there is nothing wrong with you not liking Stone or loving your locals. that's sort of a different discussion than "value".

I think Stone IRS is the best overall RIS in terms of quality/price/availability allways keep a case in the celler it improves well with age and helps with the selection when somethings get to be old.

So, you're pissed off that you get stone for less than I do, and pay more than I do for colorado beers? I would be pissed too, ten fidy and yeti are way better than irs.
Seriously, ii don't know what else to tell you. Sorry I don't see the value in irs. Sorry I pay 13.99 for ten fidy. Sorry that my local bottle shop prices stone products based on their hype. I don't control these things, I'm sure your base tax rate is different from mine too. I'm sure that the socio economic status of our two states are as different as night and day. I don't hear you bitching about that. P.s., I enjoy a lot of out of state beers. I feel that colorado is behind the times as far as ipa's are concerned. Most of my favorites come from the west coast and midwest. I also think parabola is a hell of a stout, and it blows irs out of the water too. I'm sure if I had said that you wouldn't take issue with someone not liking one rotten beer from your state. So I reckon you win, call al gore and let him. Know the interwebs are your now...
Edit, how come you didn't call out the 23rd post in this thread? Seems to point to 14$ ten fidy in cali as well. I am starting to think you're just trying to show off for your friends.

I remember paying $4.29 for a bomber back in 2007. I see it for $6 now, but for the quality it gives and comparing its price point to other imperial stouts, it's one of the better buys.

(The cynical part of me wonders the day when Stone decides to switch out the 22 ounce bottles for corked and caged 750 ml bottles, limit production to 3000 bottles, and charge $20 a pop. Please don't go down this road.)

Haha thanks man! I do enjoy me some Origin, but Meshuggah's still my favorite (despite the lack of blast beats). I need to give Expedition another shot this winter, and pick up some Double Cream Stout as well - cheers!

What a great surprise. I was visiting Atlanta yesterday and today and I usually stop in to at least two of the total wine and more shops to check out their selection of beer, but this time on my out of Atlanta I stopped into Green's and they had a shelf full of IRS. I bought two bottles just because its the only place I've seen it since this summer. Extreme excitement is definitely an understatement.

I also found a w00tstout on the shelf at a different store. The last one and the guy wanted $20 for it. I wanted to buy it so bad but I had already spent way too much money on beer during my visit. Which always happens when I go to a big city. (just too many awesome beers to choose from! gotta get them all!)

And I feel as I'm the only person in the world that thinks Stone IRS is the most boring, lucklaster RIS out there. Everytime I've had it it lacked flavor compared to other RISs and was quite muted.

Founder's Imp Stout is around $11/4 pk. I agree, cut my bomber buying to 1/3 of last year.

It's a very good deal. I am still getting over the fact that my wife drank my last 2010 bomber in a drunken state recently.
