    mmmmm- hoppy Schwartzbier...

The funny thing is, it'll taste incredibly close to SN Porter, but be touted as the next big thing

While I completely agree that 95% of IPL's could be relabeled as IPA's and no one would bat an eye, there are a few (& far between) that exhibit an amped up hop profile while still retaining notable lager qualities in the aroma, taste, & mouth feel. One of my personal favorites being Bell's Quinnanan Falls Lager.

I have no doubt the beer could be good, just a confusing designation. India Pale and Lager? Looks like a way to sperate a brew by a style designation, but not by content. India Pale and Lager? So it's a dry hoppy Lager instead of an Ale, doesn't mean it can't be tremendous, but why not just leave it as a Lager instead of bringing in a gimmick name to it? Where does the India Pale come in? Brewers discretion no doubt, just like some of HF Pale Ales that are DIPA.s A DIPA is a PA, but we don't normally associate a big 9% brew like Ephraim as a PA.

Ipl are also lower in ABV, which also means lower in calories. I've had some solid ipls that hold up to many ipas

My first intro to the IPL style was with Short's Devil's Lettuce. Damn tasty. Damn damn tasty. This has sent me to look for back ups to research it more with the much more easily available Double Agent.
    Great style for food.

The Great Lakes IPL is really good, and I hope they continue it seasonally. The naming controversy is really stupid, though. Prescriptive, formulaic style names are ruining conversations about beer. Everyone instantly knows what one means when one says, "IPL" so it is, by definition, a good name for the style.

I have many a fine IPA in my fridge (Lunch, Another One, Meadowlark, Susan, Sculpin, Jai Alai), but think Jack's Abby Hoponius Union is a fine complement (doesn't hurt I can drive to Framingham and get a 64 oz growler for $10). HU's price point and 16oz pours at local Boston bars makes it highly appealing when out...

Kiwi Rising is a phenomenal beer. Best of both worlds! Very aptly named as an IPL. Beautiful over the top hop profile and incredibly drinkable. And you can't beat Jack's Abby prices! Killing it in MA!

Thank you. I was just about to make a comment regarding how arbitrary the modern names of "India Whatever" beer styles is, anyway. The original implications of the style name, whatever they were (because I know there's some debate on the history, anyway) are pretty far removed from what the style means today, so fuck it. Words, language, and meaning change—they're completely cultural and social constructions, generally not rooted in anything objective anyway, so if "India Pale Lager" gives you an idea of what the brewer wants you to see in the beer, then mission accomplished. Let's move on and enjoy the damn beer.

Have never had any Jack's Abby or the other mentioned - but Bell's Q-Falls is one of the best beers I've ever had, any style...

Fact? I heard there was an accident on the first batch so the second was being kegged and going to bars only. I hope I heard wrong.
