I'm not falling for your naive questions Mattchow. I know that pic was taken in your kitchen.

So the rumors were true. Rumpkinator will be BB6 and we won't see it anytime soon.

Its pretty damn good, got to try it straight from the barrels. DR4 was amazing when it came out so it won't disappoint!

I went to a St. Arnold beer dinner around may and sat with a woman who worked at the brewery. She hinted that there was pumpkinator being stored in rum barrels and said that it was coming out next year. iirc they aged bb3 for 11 months? maybe it's something similar

I wouldn't be surprised if they held on to it till next Fall

Isn't it possible that it was brewed and racked last year? None of the previous releases were brewed in 2013 (BB4 was brewed in August 2012 and racked a month later), so I don't see a reason why they would wait so long to brew and rack a barrel-aged Pupmkinator.

From what I've heard, the Pumpkinator that is currently aging in rum barrels was brewed earlier this year, using last year's recipe.

Correct. Brewed earlier this year. The recipes are always the same though.

I was told that Brock changed the recipe slightly for 2013.

That's what I heard too. Something about an increase in spices for this year's batch.

Ah yes. Slightly more dry spicing than last year. I'm impressed that you guys remember these things better than us most of the time.

98.9% of the recipe is unchanged from the original DR9 though.

@mattchow you're right! As per the Saint Arnold newsletter:

Bishop's Barrel No. 5 to be Released Monday, November 4

Brewer Vince Mandeville had a favorite Wee Heavy recipe he kept tinkering with that ultimately became our Divine Reserve No. 4 released in 2007. We weren't the only ones that enjoyed it as it won the gold medal at the World Beer Cup in 2008 in the Strong Scotch Ale category. It is still drinking exceptionally well over six years later.

We rebrewed the recipe in December of 2012 and this time put it in bourbon barrels and aged it for nine months. Next week, it will be coming to you as Bishop's Barrel No. 5. Here are Vince's tasting notes on it:

The flavors and aromas of the base beer are true to the Divine Reserve No. 4. It is filled with caramel, toffee, dried figs, cocoa and a slight peatiness. Where it deviates is with the roundness of flavors the bourbon barrel contributes. Vanilla, cinnamon and a touch of rich earthy pipe tobacco mix with an alcohol warmth that adds to the rich creaminess. The great thing about this beer is that the barrel aging adds to the whole without taking away the character of the original.

Please remember, because of the small amount of beer produced from the barrels, Bishop's Barrel releases are only available at your favorite bars and restaurants.
