In all fairness, it did have a dirty sock feature as well.

As do all other citrus like oranges, limes, lemons, etc. What's your point?

For me it would have to be old age to where you taste more malts than the actual hops. If all I taste are the malts the second it hits my tongue I know what I'm drinking has been sitting on the shelf a little too long.

Not a fan of the salty/oniony ones. Also, those that try to be the biggest IPA ever and end up as bitter, boozy messes.

Glad I don't have your palate.... I've tasted fishtank before, albeit only once or twice. Gubna was a dank onion bomb to be sure, just like I like 'em.

Entirely a matter of taste and preference. I don't like a huge malt character in an IPA. That doesn't mean I don't want balance; I don't want a huge smack of caramel malt in my face.

I'm also not partial to overly astringent IPAs. I prefer my massively bitter beers to have significant floral, citrus, tropical, etc. notes; when it's more of a dry bitterness, or if I can't really pin down the flavors beyond, "Well, crap, that's bitter, all right!" then I tend to not like the beer very much.

That all comes down to personal preference, of course.

    Stale/staling hops used
    Unfresh beer (staling post-bottling)
    Lack of hop flavor/aroma
    Garlic/onion flavored hops
    Too thick/sweet without bitter balance
Too much/too high Lovibond crystal malt
    Not enough hops
Grassy/vegetal flavors from poor hopping techiniques
    Rough bitterness
    Diacetyl and other faults/off flavors
All hop flavor and no bitterness
    Too thin/watery, no malt character
    Belgian yeast
