Brooklyn has some winners, Ithaca and Ommegang and Southern Tier also to name a few...i vote Sixpoint as the best ny brewery though..such a good lineup...whats your pick?

If you are talking about Sixpoint in cans, they are brewed at Lion in Pa., and don't really qualify as NY. If you are talking about Sixpoint kegs brewed in Brooklyn, such as what is served at Beer for Beasts, they def. are delicious and for sure NY.

My opinion is Peekskill makes the best beer south of Hill Farmstead, let alone in NY, and Sixpoint et al aren't even in the same league.

I don't tend to make claims about "best", but my favorite = Barrier.

Peekskill and Sixpoint shouldn't even be mentioned in same sentence.

Peekskill best brewery in New York.

Peekskill is definitely the best IMO with Rushing Duck in the number two spot. Lots of good new breweries opening up soon though so we will see...

Can I suggest Captain Lawrence as one of the candidates? Not to mention Southampton and many others. Lotsa choices out there.

The waters do get muddy don't they? When Sierra Nevada starts to brew in NC, will you be able to make such a clear distinction? Would you still call them a California brewery? Not necessarily disagreeing with you, just picking your brain.

All, not some, not most, but all Sixpoint cans are brewed in Pa. I know that you cannot find that info on their cans, and in fact that is why I call them on it so often, how else will folks know?

As I understand it SN will be brewing the same beers in NC as they do in Cali, and it will be their facility, so it isn't a fair comparison. I'll leave it to you to decide if they are a Cali Company or not.

The beers that Sixpoint has brewed and canned at a contract brewer in Pa. are not brewed and canned anywhere else.

I am always pretty certain about my own opinions, and always open to being proven wrong.

Jacks Abbey, The Alchemist, Tree House, Kane and Lawson's are all south of HF (I think?). If Peekskill is better than all five of them I am going Saturday.

Alchemist makes the best IIPA in the country, prob. the world. Back in the day they were a brewpub that made some of the finest beers of widely differing styles ever. Peekskill, to me, is as close to that level of greatness in a brewpub there is now, and because they do so many styles so well I give them the nod. Jack's Abbey does all with lager yeast, so if you want to compare to Peekskill, don't know how you would do it, but I can think of 4 hoppy offerings from Peekskill I would prefer over any I've had from JA. Lawson's and Peekskill are probably equal in my mind quality wise, but since there is no location for Lawson's and the beer is stupid hard to find, and his capacity is so low, I give the nod to Peekskill. Kane is far south of Peekskill. Tree House? Well, haven't had the pleasure, I hear they make a decent IPA, will be looking forward to trying some.
