I hope Founders never makes the abomination that was Doom ever again, none of my friends liked it either. IPAs should be consumed as fresh as possible not destroyed in barrels. That said I'd like to try BA Heady, I'm thinking I would hate it but until I get to try it, I'll always wonder. As for sessions, I think you're wrong and the style will continue to expand rapidly
( look at how many breweries are making them now, compared to just a year ago), but personally I agree with you. I'd rather drink 1 big beer more slowly as my way of "sessioning".

    Nothing.

And I'm not sure why there has to either. Thinking there has to be another "big thing" is a very American way of thinking. Do you think in Munich they're sitting there wondering, "Man, I wonder what the next big thing to follow a Helles is? It's been a few hundred years, we're due."

This thinking is why not much good beer comes from Germany.

My sarcasm meter just blipped. Was that accurate or just a power surge and you were being serious? If so - nice troll

Don't forget their economy and their subway system. Those are both in shambles.

I think they should make subway trains comprised of connected Hummers. That would be badass.

Look, America should keep being America. We brew fantastic beer here. Germany does as well. We both have our different style and so does Belgium, etc.! In America we want innovation, the next big thing. That's who we are. Luckily there are these different mentalities that produce different beer that in the end we can all enjoy. Although, it wouldn't bother me a bit if American brewers maybe took a step back and really honed their process, consistency, and increasing their distribution area instead of worrying how many barrels to age their next imperial stout in.

Sadly I agree. Founders All Day tastes like a light beer. The aroma is IPAish but tastes very watered down.

Yes, notice I didn't say they have NO good beer just not much. Much of what they have is lagers and many breweries there follow the old German beer purity laws, which is a shame, lagers can be amazing I loved Lake Fronts Pumpkin lager aged in brandy barrels (thanks whoever recommended that to me), but lagers can also be boring which to me was my experience with German beers. I like the bigger RISs and DIPAs generally although I will admit to liking a few Dopplebocks. For me though Belgium is much better, and nowhere beats the USA they don't have any beers at least in my opinion, that can stand toe to toe with the best America has to offer. Name a German beer that's better than CBS or Heady or even Black Note and Hopslam, and compared to Belgium name something better than Rochefort 10 or St. Bernadus Abbot, I hear Westy 12 is amazing too, but I wasn't able to get any:slight_frown: ,I know I can't name a single German beer as good as those I listed.

    Make a great video game!
Aventinus comes to mind. If it was the last and only beer left on the planet, I'd be just fine. It's pretty damned German!

Where did you go in Germany?

Recently, Andech's Vollbier Hell and Andech's Weissbier were better than Heady and CBS. Weihenstephan Original is up there as well. Ayinger Oktoberfest and Wurzburger Pilsner also come to mind as some favorites that I enjoy more than say, Heady.

For stronger beer, certainly Ayinger Celebrator and as someone already mentioned, Aventinus.

You simply like bold, in-your-face flavor. Nothing wrong with that. I prefer many German beers, I get more out of them. I don't dislike Heady, it's a great beer. I also found CBS to be excellent. But I feel they're all a one-trick pony, with a few outstanding flavors that hit you over the head. The German beers I mentioned? They have layers of subtle flavor discernible from both the malt and the hops (and the yeast, can't forget that!). We simply have different palates, and that's ok.

I think it might be Gose. Westbrook released its gose this year and it has been so popular I believe they are making it a year round beer. Almost everyone I have meet loves that beer, beer geek or not.

That makes no sense to me. The struggle with a session beer is a lack of body.

I actually think smoked beers are going to be the next big thing. In my opinion and I know people will flame me for this, the big "trends" play on the bigger/stronger/more intense = better of the American consumer. Extreme hoped beers, extreme strength beers, extreme barrel aged beers, super sour beers, etc., etc. Smoke can be exploited that way. Soon you'll be seeing posts like "Smoked beer from X brewery was like drinking a pack of Marlboro's, it was EPIC BRO!!!"

As a fan of smoked beers, I am somewhat excited, though I fear it will quickly lead to 13% abv Smoked IPA's aged in pinot noir barrels, which I'm not as excited about.
