It's definitely back...I picked up two cases of Dinkel Acker CD-Pils for an "Oktoberfest" party I hosted the other week. I think they were ~$28 for a case of 16oz cans.

Well let's see. Mahr's Pilsner has a weighted ranking of 3.85 on Beeradvocate. Kiwi Rising, Jack's Abby's Double IPL, has a weighted ranking of 4.4.

If you're new to the game and looking for which is best within the pilsner style (Kiwi is listed as an imperial pilsner on BA), can you blame them?

I blame the entire "thrill-seeking > beer drinking" culture. That and the Pepsi Challenge....

SH Brands, a company started by a few of the Spaten NA crew after AB-InBev took over Spaten importation. BA member Einhorn has a connection.

Ok gotcha, I was looking at it from the Boston perspective and thinking - there's no way they are asking $8-10 for a half liter of Dinkle Acker. lol.

The important info from the keg label (same info on the 500 ml. cans) of the new S&H imported Dinkelacker:

Note they are labeling it with one word (no more "Dinkel Acker", altho' the cans' labeling - below- do appear that way) and the brewery listed as "Dinkelacker-Schwaben Brau, Stuttgart".

I noticed that on the reply I received from SH, thought it may have been a typo, but -- from the DA website:

But will they revive the old Drink a Dink' slogan?

    In English? Inneresting. Great graphics.

I just remember that at the Canstatter Volkfest Dinkel or Schwabenbräu were handing out these little flags with "Noch einmal Märzen, bitte!*" A great way to get the Biermaid's attention... unless 100,000 revelers were waving at once!

    (*Another Märzen, please!)

That's awesome to hear it's back, and even better to hear that they aren't re-labeling or cheating with it. That beer definitely was relentlessly bitter, hoppy, and a touch grainy, so it's probably not something like nc41 mentioned in his op, but is still something I'd love to have access to again.

Speaking of slogans- I wonder of it's still The Mercedes of Beers ?

I always found that it had great hop character in a good balance with that decoction malt character that I always liked -- toasty and bready. Let you know it was a Pils, not a Helles, but never killed your palate with bitterness.

    I'm on the hunt.

The last few times I had it before it disappeared, it was a bit old- so I'd sure love to have it fresh again, myself. This is probably the time to take advantage (if it's even available 'round here). My problem is, I have too much beer in the house as it is lately, but stuff like this keeps on sending me out to the store

Doesn't hurt that both companies are based in Stuttgart, I suppose?

Though my vote is for that "lesser-known" Stuttgart auto manufacturer.

Well, in that case they'd probably have to go with "There is no substitute".

Can't say I disagree. I've been drinking lots of OMB Mecktoberfest lately, and while this may sound strange, I don't think there's a more "rejuvenating" beer out there. I've been exhausted as of late, yet one sizeable gulp of that beer and I almost instantly feel better. OMB's beers just have a cleanness and crispness that few beers stateside match. Not to pile on with the OMB love, but those guys just hit it out of the park with every single beer they brew.

The Mecktoberfest was killer good, my dad bought some home to Pa with him. I don't normally like the Fest beers, way too malty, but this one was the best. Even a simple Pils from OM was as good a beer as I've had this year. I'm a convert to great Pils and lagers.

Mabel was better known for serving Black Label, rather than drinking it...

(but, I'd guess, once her shift was over she'd want a beer -or two or----- after hearing that all night).
